35-0 at the end of the first quater!

Know all about it, I was there until halftime. Things are definitely going to take some time for the Devils to improve. One thing that I noticed that has not changed a bit from last season is the way the team acted. After the second blocked punt, the whole team was down and it showed in the way they played on the field. Outlook, motivation, and attitude are going to be the major things that Coach Montgomery needs to focus on with his team. It is going to be a work in progress to say in the least, but I still believe that Montgomery can be the coach that Dayton needs to turn things around. Another thing that likely has to do with it, which I believe is a big part of program success is community support. There was nobody there; it still saddens me to think back to how the support of the team was back when I played, before, and not too long after. Regardless of winning or losing, many used to come out for the games to Davis field.

Back in 07 it was packed every game! Very difficult to be lose your starting qb the day before game. Any info on how HC scored so many so quick?

Holy Cross scored on their first play with close to a 40 yard run that came from a blocked punt, next TD was off a blocked punt recovered in the endzone, Dayton fumbled a few times (actually a lot but recovered a couple of them), and the offense just couldn't find a way to stay on the field. I didn't keep complete track, but I believe that Dayton was well into negative yardage over the whole first half. Over the whole half, I would say that HC averaged close to ten yards a play. It wasn't good at all.

The only games I got to see that season were Lynn Camp and Bellevue, which had pretty good crowds (obviously the Bellevue game would have). I believe if Lickert never left, things could have possibly stayed the way they were then. Everyone knew that Lickert wouldn't be in Dayton for long though.

I doubt that it would be how it was even if Lickert never left, but Dayton can not consistantly win as long as kids from Dayton keep leaving Dayton and play for Highlands, NCC and Bellevue!

I believe that things would have still been different. Regardless, it's always going to be a challenge in the small inner city schools. I can't help to believe so after seeing what he did at Holmes. I'm completely aware that Holmes didn't have much success in the playoffs while he was there, but considering their regular season records during his time speaks enough for me. Holmes was a pretty down team until he got there. It took him one year to have consecutive seasons with eight wins or better.

Two seasons and yes Coach Lickert is a very good coach but Dayton does not have the talent to win year in and year out. If you seen the Holmes team he coached they had athletes every where. Maybe he does help but thats maybe one or two wins a year extra he brings. Sorry but Lickert knew what Dayton had coming up and that is why he got out when he did and left the class he groomed for years the 07-08 team to challenge for state. Chad Montgomery will be fine he needs some time to develop some depth. He will work as hard as anyone to fix what can be fixed and prepare for Lloyd next week! The community needs to get out and support him and the greendevils!

It could be possible that Lickert was aware of what Dayton's team had coming. I don't believe that there was much difference between the amount of players on the team between now and then though.

Not the difference between numbers but talent and dedication.

Well after playing the last couple of years I will say this there were no personal fouls on Dayton and it's not the same team . Everyone in Dayton was talking about how good the team looked last week and now bashing everything about them. I was down towards the concession stand and looked out at the coin toss and that was a pretty easy indicator of how things were going to go. Holy Cross was just so much bigger stronger and faster. Holy Cross is going to win some games. I also still think Dayton can win 3-4 games this year which would obviously be an improvement.

Dayton will keep improving week in and week out, if your Coach Montgomery i bet he would rather see his players turn into fine young men and they will win no doubt about it keep improving and things will look up!

Holy Cross has some weapons. Any thoughts on the job they did or was it all Daytons coaching change that won the game in this fashion?

Daytons coaching change has nothing to do with this game. Obviously HC is a good team and were bigger, faster and stronger then Dayton. Make no mistske about it Dayton is not in HC league but I still have my doubts about HC until the get over the hump and beat NCC. Just to clarify Chad Montgomery will do fine in Dayton he is building from the ground up and will do very well at Dayton!
