August 21, 201115 yr The cutoff date used to be July 31. Kids were already getting to big to play on the little field (hence pushing the fences back), so why allow older kids to play? Not sure exactly. All I know is that pretty much every league I've heard of now uses the April 1 (or April 31) deadline. So right or wrong, at least LL is consistent with all the others.
August 21, 201115 yr Nice post! I agree! The bold is ALL about "daddy ball". :thumb:Amen, I am in favor of any league that gets kids out from behind the dang computer and out of the house playing ball. You guys are absolutely clueless..I am glad you enjoy pre-school baseball..Check out the New Era Youth Majors next week and you tell me what is better.. It will be on the mlb network.. It's not even close..They play big boy baseball..You know leadoff, dropped third strikes, pitching from the stretch, pitching from 50ft, 70ft bases, 300ft fences etc..To even try and compare the two is hilarious.. Now that was all class, congrats, you know everything.. Someone says something you don't agree with and you go to name calling and immediately ditch any idea or opinion other than your own. I have witnessed all too often the kind of parent that is living their own desires and sometimes "wannabe's" through their kids. The more they try to tell what they know, well, the more they make the case of what they don't. I am not putting down either league.....it's about the kids and there hasn't been one youth baseball player go to MLB straight out of LL,Travel ball, baberuth league, 8yr old baseball and there never will. All I am saying is that it is about kids paying baseball and not some few parents that have promoted themselves to the inventor of the game or the overseerer of all things youth sports and what is right. Raiderbird, contrary to your belief other opinions matter just as much as yours. At no time did I put any youth league down or the kids for playing it! That attitude imo is what is pre school (as you call it). Have a good time convincing people that no other opinion than yours matters. I will give you credit, you did start this separate thread from the other when you were being called out by everyone. So, I will leave you with this one and not dare to voice a different opinion.
August 21, 201115 yr I would disagree with this greatly. I love watching LL on TV and some of those kids are simply outstanding, but they are absolutely of the age where they should be taking leadoffs, learn how to read a pitcher's movement and steal a base, learn how to execute a hit and run, pitchers should know how to pitch from a stretch and hold runners on base, catchers learn techniques to pick off/throw out base stealers, hold third strikes and how to react if they do not, etc.. Those are all also fundamentals of baseball and players who do not know those things are behind other kids their age. . You stated your opinion well and make some good points. I respect that and in the way that you disagreed, good post imo. :thumb:

So, I will leave you with this one and not dare to voice a different opinion. I am not saying that my opinion is the only opinion. I am saying that you are misinformed and have no idea what you are talking about. In Greater Cincinnati LL is for kids who cannot compete at the higher level of baseball. If you are an elite baseball player at 12yrs old your not playing LL. The rules hold back more advanced kids. LL is great for kids that don't want to play at the higher level or can't. I have no issue with that. I have a problem with people trying to compare the two. IMO they are not remotely close. Like I said before watch the New Era Youth Majors Championships next week and then voice your opinion. There is a night and day difference in the quality of baseball played.
August 21, 201115 yr I am always glad when kids are playing the greatest game ever invented...I too am not a fan of some of the LL rules, but heck the kids are playing, and I hope the Kentucky team wins it all...I never have known what the right age for kids to start more advanced style of play is, but I can tell you I like Knothole, LL, AABC, and every kind of baseball that is being played by kids. The problem with baseball right now is that it is similar to pro boxing in that nobody really knows what is best, but as long as the kids keep playing and progressing and playing then in high school and travel ball or whatever, I am good with it. Probably the toughest "major" sport to get much money from for college. I applaud all the kids, coaches, parents and umpires everywhere for their efforts.
August 21, 201115 yr Most of the kids here that are highly skilled play both. They play LL basically to qualify for all stars and the post season. No one in their right mind will argue that LL has the quality of players that AABC has. However, LL never turns away a soul whereas the select teams are just that. Not sure how this is an argument. And the only thing I'll say, the notion that these kids on TV this week playing in the LLWS can't compete in the Greater Cincy whatever league is absurd. Totally absurd. AABC and other organizations were established for the better kids to play a different style of baseball that included things that older leagues previously implemented. It's beyond me that folks continue to bash the accomplishments of kids because they're not playing in a different league. I'll add this, if LL isn't that big a deal, why isn't AABC on ABC this afternoon?

The AABC, USSSA, AAU, Pony League, Dixie, NABF and Super Series Champions will be playing next week on the mlb network. The winner of this tournament will be crowned the true National Champion at 12u.. So it is on tv.. http://mlb.mlb.com/youthmajors/

I just don't understand why you were hellbent on demeaning LL. You could have made your point without knocking the achievements of kids. And I wasn't the only one from the tone of the thread.

I have nothing against the kids at all. I just hate the rules of LL..

So, anyone who disagrees with you is clueless? Okay! The hilarious thing is I didn't agree or disagree with you! But it's sad that you cannot give any credit to a group of KIDS who worked hard to achieve something, you only want to put a kids league down, as Old Rambler mentioned. HE is one who said he worked with both, yet you decide to quote my post and not his? If a kid is in HS then fine, compare leagues talent and whatever. Also, even if your kids league achieves something and moves on, I will wish them the best, no matter what league it is, I am happ when any area teams advances! If Hamilton Ohio would have been La Grange I would have been cheering for them too! (For those not in the NKY area, Hamilton is in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati. I have nothing against the kids... I hope LaGrange wins it all. I just can't stand the rules of LL..I think it is like riding a bike at 12yrs old with training wheels..

I just can't stand the rules of LL..I think it is like riding a bike at 12yrs old with training wheels..You know what? It's just your approach. Obviously, you want something different, and in your opinion, more for yours. Nothing wrong with that. However, what about the kids who aren't talented enough to play at a higher level? Those kids just have their league disbanned because it's not up to your standard? No matter how you like to parade your choice, LL is a great opportunity for all levels of talent. And while I wasn't in the mood to dispute your notion earlier where you asked where you put down kids, please revisit the original thread where you said those kids couldn't make the team in your league. Your remarks were pointed and classless towards those kids. Bottom line. I do commend you for making your stance more clear in this thread however.

The Hamilton team a few years ago who went to the LL World Series had a team in the SWOL the next year 13u. They went .500 in the league..When it was time to play " real baseball" they obviously were way behind. There were maybe 1 or 2 kids on that team that could of made the top 2 or 3 teams in the league. How is stating a fact putting someone down? My whole stance is that people want to say that LL is the crowning jewel of 12u baseball. It is simply not even close. LL is great rec ball no more no less..It is what it is..I actually hope the team from Ky comes back and wins it all..This thread has run it's course..
