August 11, 201115 yr Unless I misunderstood, that was a California thing only. Here in KY, you can load that dude. True. Open carry usually means loaded. Leave it California to make you unload it and allow to basically carry a metal club. I found the reason in the video for California's law somewhat racist - Black Panthers patrolling neighborhoods with loaded rifles. If that is what they were doing and doing it prevent crime and not committing crime then they should have have had that ability taken from them.
August 11, 201115 yr Am I wrong in believing that Kentucky recently amended that to include glove box or console storage? I thought I read where it was now considered legal to carry a pistol in those places and you didn't have to have it in plain sight. You are correct. Those are legal without a concealed permit.
August 12, 201115 yr It looks like California just likes to create new laws. In this case to fix old bad law. From the video the person carrying the unloaded open view gun did so due to inability to get a CCW permit. NOW he looks intimidating because the gun is in plain view. If California just did 'Must Issue' - this would not be happening. In Kentucky, how many people do you see exercising open carry of firearm? Very few. BTW, real open carry is the ability to open carry a loaded gun, not unloaded. Because Kentucky is a must issue state many people have CCW permits. Lots of people are armed in Kentucky - legally - we just do not notice. Also as noted no CCW permit is needed for loaded gun in a glovebox or console. Lots of cars in Kentucky are homes to weapons. Indeed I've got mine on me when ever I go out on my motorcycle. I've came across some intense situations that brought me to the realization that I'd feel more comfortable knowing I had a comporable form of protection should a group of individuals try to do bodily harm to myself. Plus like you said, about not knowing who else has a gun on them, me knowing I have mine is somewhat a piece of mind thing that I could defend myself should I be forced into a situation in which I had no other choice.
August 12, 201115 yr Permits are nothing more then a tax. They may be, but if I ever had an encounter, God forbid, that I had to use my weapon to defend myself, when it was all said and done and I appeared before a jury of my peers, I'd prefer it be known I had a conceal/carry permit. While it means little legally, it would surely show I was a responsible citizen who at the minimum knew my firearm well enough to know how it was to be used.
