Trinity Defense

 

I’m so happy for the kids on Trinity’s D. Almost everyone was calling for Bean’s head. Fans were calling the kids lazy. In the end, they stop listening to the fans in the stands, and started playing old fashioned Trinity D. Three cheers for the Rocks!!!

 

I thought it would be fun to look back at some of the posts after the 1st encounter when the sky was falling. A big :thumb: goes to andigidy.

Trinity has some work to do. I have followed Trinity football since 1984. I haven't missed a game in last seven years. I said few weeks ago Trinity's defense is not good. It showed again last night. I believe Beatty needs to take over Defense, get rid of the guy they got. Lot of people don't like the play calling on defense. Time for a change. Trinity got the players to have a great defense. I like to see Mickey come back. Something got to be done,

The Rockhead D held their own the first half and wore down in the second. It's kind of hard to stay fresh and keep your composure when you O can't move the ball. Right now Coach Bean doesn't have the talented players he needs to run his D; only time and better training will help that. Let's not bail out on T's D just yet.

I agree, he Rocks defense started the season looking a little thin. They then proceeded to lose four or five starters. I really felt they would have an uphill battle against X's running attack and they did. It certainly didn't help to be lining up on your own side of the field on every series. X started on the 50,50 and the Rock 37 to start. After that I lost track. No need to point fingers, the Rocks failed in every phase of the game. Get better, win District, make a run in the playoffs. Once the playoffs start its a whole new season.

 

The Trinity defense has allowed more points against X in the last 2 games than they did in the previous 10. It is most definately the scheme, IMO.

Coach Bean brought in the same "60" scheme that has been used at St. X for over 20 years and has had some very good success with. It is not the scheme, it could be coaching or not having the right personnel to run it properly at this time.

 

.......He runs more of a 50 scheme than 60.......nothing like the way M.K. or D.L. ran it and those guys won far more championships than anyone ever did at x............no checks at the line and in the wrong D all night long...................

i guess Glaser wanted to make sure he got some kids in so the RCIA director at Holy Spirit can continue to talk kids into transferring to x.....Anderson still in there late in the game, i didnt see any subs whacking us into submission really! Just terrible or zero defensive adjustments............can D.L. hear our plea ? :eek:

 

My personal opinion is that the 'fans' always know what plays to call in the stands. Coaches work harder than most people think, I used to coach a little league team and I spent a lot of time preparing so I can't imagine what it must be like to be at a 4A powerhouse school. Teams have down years and people start to panic as soon as it happens, you could have any coach you wanted and achieve the same results. No offense to any of the parents out there but there just is not a lot of talent this year. The coaches just can't make something out of nothing, from what I have seen the kids don't seem to really 'want it' or have any fire. I can't explain it it is just something I have observed. In response to the D side of the ball it seems to me that the O had the same amount of trouble. didn't they only score 18 points? and Wasn't that only against X's second string? I think Beatty has more than enough on his hands with trying to figure out what plays to call on the O ball. Bean has more that proven himself in the past, stick with him and let the kids learn his system which is new to all of the kids.

 

Beatty needs to take over, during the game Beatty doesn't make a call. Trinity defense has been weaken with injuries. That is the excuse UK, Brooks are giving. All I am saying you got to play defense smart. First they are lazy in tackling, One arm tackles. Bean, If I am right was run of by St. X. Bean doesn't adjust fast. Beatty is a master on offense. A good offense coach (think about it) knows defense. Beatty knows how to beat a Defense. I like to see Beatty take it over. I don't care for Bean, and alot A LOT of people in the stands don't either.

 

Obviously, you, and your sources, have no idea what you are talking about if you think Coach Bean was "run off" from St. X. :irked:

Trinity used their 1st team offense to score their 1st TD on X's 2nd team Defense. Then they scored their 2nd TD on X's 3rd team defense. X's 2nd team offense scored their last TD on trinity's 1st team defense.

 

What a shame that Beaty wouldn't give his younger players some time.

 

2 years in a row that the Tigers have swept the rocks...Freshman, JV, and Varsity.

 

The lineman were the difference...Will Wolford has the Tigers dominating the line.

 

Trinity is still a good team, X is just that good. Trinity has a better game that they can play than this one.

Tony Klausing provided excellent leadership for the D-Line. He was a great example for the underclassmen of both hardwork and sportsmanship. As a matter of fact, the seniors were a great bunch of leaders on BOTH sides of the ball. I'm so glad they won...it's refreshing :thumb: when nice guys finish FIRST!

I think it is funny that Bean has so quickly gone from a guy that everyone wants gone to some sort of hero. Whatever happened to believing in the scheme all along? I just hope that if things get tough a thread like this doesn't happen again.

I believe that out of the all the quotes...LSURock hit it on the head! X did not get the short field in this game as in the first. I believe Trinity's offense and special teams were the difference in this game....not the defense.

 

Trinity's offense did not have all the 3 and outs....they moved the ball consistently all night. Even though they did not put up big numbers on the scoreboard, they were getting it done. Trinity averaged 4.5 yards on running plays (38-172) and 6.2 yards on passing plays(12-22-138y). Petrino was the back breaker with 2 fantastic plays....the TD run where many other QBs would have been sacked and the scramble out of the endzone, late in the 4th to end the game. He also showed good poise all night.

While Trinity's D did come up big on X's last poss. They did not not stop the Tigers. X averaged 4.8 yards per running play(40-192) and 12.8 yards per passing play(6-17-77y). X's 80+ yards of penalties came mostly on offense. The Tigers shot themselves in the foot and Trinity like all great teams will do...took advantage.

While the Trinity D gave up considerable less points than in the first game...I believe that LSURock had it right....X had to score on a much larger field...because the Trinity O was getting it done. The X offense could not run that many plays in a row without committing a penalty. Trinity was much more disciplined on offense. Their special teams blocked a FG, pressured the X punter all night (came close to blocking 2 punts), and kept X pinned on their side of the field with good punting. I just can't see where giving up over 4 yards a play is considered good defense! Four times three equals 12 and you only need 10 for a first down.

Fuzzy math. The only math you need to know about the Trinity D is 7-1=6.

X did not get the short field in this game as in the first. I believe Trinity's offense and special teams were the difference in this game....not the defense.

I could be wrong, but didn't X get a short field at least three times in the state final:

 

1. Their first drive on Trinity's 39;

2. Their second drive on Trinity's 41; and

3. Their drive that started on the fifty after the failed fourth down attempt by Trinity?

I just can't see where giving up over 4 yards a play is considered good defense! Four times three equals 12 and you only need 10 for a first down.

They did...the problem is that they were not disciplined enough to do it without penalties as Trinity did.

 

Once again..this is not a knock on Trinity as you are taking this....I just feel that Trinity's defense was not the deciding factor. Giving up that many yards is not good.

 

I think you are overlooking Petrino's effort...for whatever reason....Look at it this way...Petrino averaged 6 yards a carry and 6.2 yards a pass. Vince Young the Maxwell Award winner (and Heisman candidate) averages 6.3 yards a carry and 9.7 a pass. There's your difference! I would say that Petrino is in pretty good company stat wise

I have to respectfully disagree with you somewhat here. Field position was very key, as you say - it was huge that Trinity's offense had few three and outs because it kept the Tigers pinned back after the first quarter. But Trinity's run defense played very well considering the strength of the opponent. St. X ran the ball well reasonably well in the game, but Trinity kept Vic and Michael from making big plays, which no one else had really been able to do this year.

 

Once Anderson and Mattingly got into the secondary, there seemed to be nowhere to go because Trinity's guys tackled very well. Curley's injury negated his running, which made it easier for them to defend, but they still played solid defense.

(I think that's why T fans have been disgruntled about the D the past two years) Coach Bean's philosophy has been the same way since he was at Oldham Co. High back in the 80s; at St. X during the 90s; and now at Trinity. As much as I hate seeing Coach Bean at T I'm happy that he's coaching once again - a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
