From attending both games, Bertke looked like to me at least, to be done both physically and mentally, while Sullivan looked fine! Bertke kept looking into the dugout seemingly to say I am done, while Sullivian just looked mad at himself.

 

If that 6-4 FC was a 6-4-3 DP, there would have been no question that Sullivan would have come out for the next inning and perhaps shutout PRP the rest of the way.

 

Baseball players feed off each other and that FC and not DP gave PRP that little opening and that was all the PRP team needed to come alive!

 

Regardless of how players looked and guessing at their headset, what are your thoughts purely on the strategy of the moment. If I am Schulkens, once I get to the 5th with the lead on one of the best teams in the tournament and have Cain available, I say the instant PRP gets the tieing run on base, no doubt I am bringing in Cain. I would feel better being Meyerhoff and going down with my best pitcher on the mound than I would being Schulkens and losing with my best pitcher available but watching it all happen.

I would have kept Sullivan in. He was good to go until the second hit and I honestly don't know how Cain was feeling and besides, Cain in his last couple of outing has been less than impressive, far too many walks to please me!

Get over it. The last I checked the pictcher is the Middle Linebacker of the defense in baseball. LOL

Coop is right. I can have great D but if the pitcher is giving up bombs and frozen ropes it doesnt matter. Yes , both are necessary but pitching is not the same as defense.

We will agree to disagree as always. But for NewCath, correct me if I am wrong but the pitcher did his job in the game I am referring to and the fielders didnt get it done. So, if the fielders get it done on the field and the pitcher keeps throwing strikes and placing pitches and the fielders record 21 outs in 21 opportunities then the way I see it the Defense wins.
