Bishop Brossart 1, Campbell Co. 0

The Lady 'Stangs seem to always make District Championship games an adventure. 2011 was no exception as the Lady 'Stangs and Campbell County battled to a 0-0 standoff for 5 and a half innings at Pendery Park.

Brossart had dominated Campbell all season beating them twice 11-0 in run rule games. Today was closer.

Brossart wasted a lot of scoring opportunities leaving seven runners in scoring opportunities and failing to capitalize on 3 Camel errors.

Alicia Miller dominated the Campbell lineup allowing just one hit over seven innings striking out 6. However it would take two key hits back to back in the sixth to win.

Senior Catcher Lindsay Griffith led off the sixth with a single to left and stretched it into a record 23rd season double with some heads up baserunning. Two pitches later Senior Pitcher Alicia Miller would line a single to center to plate Griffith.

The Lady 'Stangs played heads up defense all day. Senior Rightfielder Natalie Woeste fired a strike to first to take away a camel hit in the bottom of the fifth and then recorded the final out on a fly to right to preserve Miller's 13th season shutout.

Miller, Griffith and Woeste were All-Tournament

Brossart is now 24-5 while the Lady Camels fall to 4-20.

The Region draw is Saturday at 10 AM. Brossart will play either Nicholas Co., Mason Co. or Clark Co.

It marks the Lady 'Stangs 21st straight Region Appearance and their 11th District Championship:D

Campbell County has played better towards the end of the season which is the right time of the year to do this. I will say one thing, the way Mel acted today getting in the face of the umpire was ridiculous. It was a clean play at the plate and the catcher had every right being there and where he should have gotten thrown out of the game was when he went out of their dugout and went almost to behind the back stop to yell at the umpire for his strike zone. Any other coach would have been thrown out. The Campbell County coach got thrown out for way less than that. What Mel did today is not only embarrassment to himself but to Brossart's program.

Good luck to both teams. This game today could have gone either way. Campbell played better defense. The errors did not cost them any runs so they lucked out there. Rachel Carroll pitched very well for the Lady Camels. What I was more excited about was the crowd who came out to watch the girls play.

For Campbell County Rachael Carroll (Freshman) and Taylor Griffin (Senior) made the All Tournament Team. Alicia had her stuff working today. Campbell County just could not get the hits when they needed them. They put the ball in play but just did not go through. 2 good plays by Campbell County were from Carson Gray & Allison Franzen both gunning runners out at the plate.

This isn't grade school, coaches have a right to challenge a horrible call. He cares he isn't 4-16

HUM, so he likes to act the way he does? I find that funny. He is an embarrassment to the school. Throw the record out there all you want.

I am wondering where he will be next year when his "horse" graduates this year. Will he stick around or will he leave as the softball coach? This will show the type of "coach" he really is if he decides to stay and "coach" a team that will not have as strong of a pitcher as he has now.

Didn't the get beat by Scott in the first round of Districts last year? If so not sure how that would be the 21st straight appearance in the region.

They lost to Scott in the finals of the district; not the first round.

To challenge a call or contest a call is one thing, but to continue to see the same actions out of a "head coach/athletic director is another. What I wittnessed AGAIN, shows the lack of perfessionalism from this individual. Not only does he do this during softball, but at any sporting event he is in attendence at. Pencil whipping stats is one thing, but to contiue be a very poor representative of your school...... well I guess the administartion feels that this is the way a adult should act, not to mention what this is teaching his players.

Good Luck to both teams in the Regional.

I guess that my $$$$$ spent for the public school system is not that bad!! I felt the coach from Campbell has done a great job with developing his very young team and watch out, things do go full circle and the wealth of talent for the Mustangs may be not as strong in the future.

If I could, I would like this 1000x. Well said.

242 is always the expert geeeeeeez. Where is 242 coaching now?

Once again, you do not state the facts, all you do is make a haphazard comment which is just a dig. All 242 and many others on here have stated facts. It does not matter where someone coaches or not because we all know who coaches Brossart and it is not Mel, it would be Tommy. That is the problem, Mel can act anyway he wants too because if he gets thrown out the real coach is still there.

Mel does a good job and his players work hard and appreciate his standing up for them.

BTW...... Congrats girls for a very good and tough win.

I have to say I like that terminology.

Well "BIG" Green, I may not be the expert, but I am soooo glad if I had a daughter who was a softball player I would know not where to send her to be a student athlete. Another first class comment/s by a person in administration, not to mention a coach.

1) Sorry, but just like your scorebook you are incorrect in me being a coach, 2) if the 4-16 is pointed at the Campbell County record, which by the way I did check the KHSAA web-site and I am an expert on reading the facts, then how did you only beat them 1-0 after 2, 11-0 wins over the Camels per you post?? It seems to me that coach cared enough to erase the previous outcomes and almost pull off the win. Could it be he took a very young team and developed them and had them ready to go at the right time of the season??

Your comments just go to prove how correct my statement is. They are just a long line of comments and your actions are not the first time you have embarrassed yourself, your team and your school. How about your little 2 step number you did a year ago after beating Bracken County?? Well that paid off now didn't it?? What was the outcome of the All A Regional finals this year?? Please remember every action has a re-action. If you make comments you may want to make sure that you have your facts straight first. You know what happens to those who throw stones.....

Why not give credit where credit is due rather than saying a 4-16 coach doesn't care?? I wittnessed that coach getting ejected for far less than what I saw from you in the district finals, but he is smart enough not to get involved in bashing other teams.
