What Cinco De Mayo represents probably had more of impact on America as we now know it then it did on Mexico. It isn't even widely celebrated in Mexico.

Flag burnings, no prayer in public places, kids suspended for wearing American flag shirts on Cinco DeMya day, etc.

 

When are our rights violated fo rthose who disagree with POLITCAL CORRECTNESS. It seem with agree with a few, but make tons mad. If I am illegal then I am illegal, if I dont pay my taxes I go to jail, child Preds should not be out preying on our kids, cant personal profile, I am poor and pay taxes, oil comps are rich and pay no taxes. America has some issues, we need one guy who isnt afraid to stand up to everything that is wrong.

I don't think they were, plus it shouldn't matter, is that shirt allowed in the school on any other day or not? If yes, then it should be allowed everyday. Plus, the one kids father is of Mexican decent. This is the USA! I don't see the people in Mexico City, or anywhere else in Mexico, taking down the Mexican flag so all the Americans visiting or living there don't get upset on "their day".

Right, and one of my twins continuing to talk to an already annoyed other twin does not make his words bad. They are just there to cause trouble. If you wear an American flag shirt all of the time, then that's fine. It's in your clothing rotation. However, when you organize a group to wear it on a fake Mexican holiday, in an area where I'm sure that illegal immigration is a very hot button topic, it could be perceived to be done to cause trouble. The prinicpal in a high school can levy the penalty if he/she feels that it is what is needed to avoid confrontations. He/she is much closer to the topic than we are. I have a very hard time believing that these kids wore American flag clothing normally.

I disagree. If any student, I don't care what school he goes to, isn't allowed to wear something that represents this country, then we are in a bad, as well as sad, situation.

I remember when I was much younger that there was outrage over flag clothing ,Shirts ,blouses wearing them as capes etc . Of course it was hippies doing the wearing . Of course perception is reality .

You are missing the point. IF, and I don't know so my whole position is on that hypothetical, IF the kids were using the American Flag to cause trouble, then they are using it for the wrong reasons. If these are just patriotic kids, then I'm wrong and you are right. However, chances are good that these kids were wearing them as a way to get under the skin of other kids. If it is that, then they are disrespecting the flag. Wave the flag in honor of the country and in honor of those who die for it, but don't use it as a weapon to offend a minority group. That is what I have a problem with.

Actually in my first post in this thread yesterday I was kind of getting to that by saying no flag shirts should have been worn, but no one took the bait :(

 

The US flag code says you cannot wear the flag, anything that resembles the flag is considered the flag, including patches on sports uniforms or helmets, all considered wrong in the US flag code.

 

But, I will say it's only a code, not a law, I see no issues with people wearing something with the flag or resembling the flag.

That is a competitive event. These kids, again in my hypothetical situation, were wearing their flag shirts to make immigrants uncomfortable and basically to cause trouble.

This is the key issue, why in the heck should anyone in this country feel "uncomfortable" by someone else wearing the American flag, in America? I don't care what day it is!

 

If is was so wrong, they why where the students told that even with them being sent home it would not be written down on their records or whatever? There would be no record of them being sent home, or of them not being there for the rest of their classes? Why not suspend them? I know the reason, most can see it, the administration of the school knew they were skating on thin ice, and they were hoping the students would just be happy with having a free day off of school and that would be the end of it, but it back-fired.
