We can all speculate. I may speculate that you're not a critical thinker or that you have issues with people that are different than you.

 

However, I've never met you so I don't have much to base that on. I'd have to see evidence of my belief manifested by your actions.

Never 'frequented' an inner city in my life unless you include the one year of college at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans which was sandwiched between I-10 and Gerttown(a ghetto of New Orleans).

I disagree with that. I can certainly see where someone could have a problem with his association with the Reverend Wright. I could certainly see where someone could have a problem with his lyrics, particularly police officers or family members of the police officer killed in New Jersey.

That was well done. That Ted Nugent bit just epitomizes the partisan nature of this stuff.

 

I also thought this was an extremely relevant response to this from Ta-Nehisi Coates' column:

 

You know, normally something this stupid wouldn't bother me, but this story really gets under my skin. If they can try to paint Common as a 'dangerous black man,' what black man is immune? If they think Common is vile, then I know they have no use for my black [behind]. Everyone and I mean absolutely everyone who tuned in to watch that show knows what Common is all about. Anyone who looks to that singular performance as a representation of who Common is and what he is about has an agenda. Habib's post with Ta-Nehisi Coates column nails it for me.

IMO there's a difference in not liking the lyrics in a song and not liking the meaning of the song. I think many are confusing the two.

What language used in what songs? I need the name of songs that Common has used ill advised lyrics in because of of the top of my head I can't think of any. His lyrics are thoughtful and insightful. I can't think of one song of his that anyone would hear for the first time and find offensive. Not their taste? Sure. Offensive? Not hardly. But I could be wrong. I'd just like to know of some songs by Common that people would find offensive.
