Yes.

All I know about "smashmouth football" is that I get a chuckle every time a fan boasts about how his or her team plays "smashmouth football" and how his or her team is going to come out and physically dominate an opponent. I guess if you say something to yourself often enough you start believing it.

 

I also know that if you are going to run between the tackles a large majority of the time, you better have a huge advantage (size and strength wise) over your opponents, or you won't be playing in the state game very often. Even if a team has those advantages, a well coached, disciplined defense with a lot of speed can thwart those advantages.

 

To me, a much more diversified offense that spreads out and thins the defense is much, much more effective over the long haul and can be a great equalizer when a team doesn't have the size or strength of its opponent.

Good post. Especially at the higher levels in KY it seems like the consistent title threats are really balanced. I do think a team has to be able to do both. That is one of the reasons I'm not a big Power-I, Double Wing, or any other type of pound the rock offense guy. I would hate to be in a big game and have to really scramble to try to make adjustments because our team was so pass heavy or run heavy and the other team had the horses to shut it down. But, let's be honest, if all things are equal if a team has better horses than their opponent they will usually win the game.
