I was curious if home runs were down any this year in Ky high school baseball. I thought the bats were supposed to be somewhat limited and it would reduce the long balls . I am curious what other people think ?

Bats are not dumbed down till next year. Look at college stats since their bats changed this year.

I was just curious because some of our players had to purchase bats this year because last years models were no longer legal ?

I was at Southwestern Friday and the Rockcastle coaches told me they had a player who had 13 home runs in the first 15 games this year despite being walked several times. Bats must still have quite a bit of pop in high school!!

Shane Fowler of Harrison County has either 12 or 13 homeruns already.

Home runs are down because rainouts are up.

That Rockcastle kid they were talking about would be John Saylor. He is of to a real good start with .596 average ( 31-52) and 13 home runs in their first 15 games. Looks like rains outs will hamper his numbers more than the new bats , but he is a fine hitter none the less. John hadn't played any summer baseball due to football for about 5 years until he played with Morse Mustangs 18u. last summer. Playing year around for the first time really seems to have picked up his game .

Must be a crackdown on steriod usage.
