I agree, D Hausefeld is a very talented, solid pitcher!

Anderson is the achilles heel....8th region is loaded. WV is good but not good enough. Ginn is very good all round and Highlands has a good core, but until dethroned with their teams returning, Ryle and Conner are the teams to beat.

You Re right on the money! Ryle and Conner both are very good. Like is said in football you cant be the best until you beat the best and the last time i looked Ryle was winning the region! My daughter plays with them during the summer and has a great time and learned a lot from the ryle gang. Highlands does a a very good core but are very very young. They could give some teams a little trouble but at the end of the day you still have to beat Ryle just like you have to beat HHS in football.

Walton has never had to play Anderson the last three years they have been to the Region. Their achilles heel has been Shelby County who has knocked them out each time.

Take a look at the core of players and program they are putting together down at Notre Dame.

Extremely young team. I'll be curious to see how they develop.

I agree. I think the coach is A+. I always find it interesting in NKY softball that every team is always so young. Has described every team since I can remember. The coaches always say it, the media, the parents. Is this just a sport that lends itself to younger kids? Do the older girls tired of it and quit? Ryle has a young pitcher, as does Conner-two of the better teams in the 9th Region.

Good question. My daughter had a decent-sized senior class. However, two classes behind her had zero kids. Conner always has a few young kids.

That seems to be the theme these days. Why is that? If you look at the HHS team they have a good core of girls filled in with two 7th graders two 8th graders and might even see a 6th grader in the starting lineup!

They only have 4 seniors and 1 Jr. 3 of the seniors and the 1 Jr have played together for the last 4 years. Could all of the summer ball kids are playing these days be pushing them away from playing as they get older? Two of the 7th graders play about 50-70 games a summer.

Clyde whats your take on this for real! Do you see that being a problem? Don't get me wrong my daughter will play in 4 tournaments this summer but they will be showcases and thats it.

Girls are obviously different than boys. They just lose that "burn" to play sometimes especially if their team isn't strong. Plus some schools lose girls to spring soccer or club vball - huge problem at NDA. You can't do both. In addition, it's a darn hard sport to play especially the hitting. Many girls will get frustrated for that reason alone and think it's not worth the effort if they can't hit. Lastly, kids just have more options today to fill their time.

I told my daughter when she was about 5 or 6 that I'd buy her any sporting goods she needed and I'd spend as much time with her working on her game as long as she didn't become a cheerleader. Fortunately, Dad won out on that one and I got to experience a lot of great years of watching my lovely daughter compete. I miss is greatly.

I should add that it can be a challenge if your middle-school daughter gets invited to play varsity. You sometimes worry about what they're "learning" on the bench. Fortunately, it wasn't an option at NDA so I didn't have to face that challenge until 9th grade.

You are truly right i love watching my daughter play she did all the sports growing up and around 7th grade dropped soccer made some people mad but told her it was ok with me(hahaha) but she was just burnt out playing all year. Then this year came home and said basketball is out i was like you have played for 10 years just did not have fun anymore and wanted to play just softball. I tell everyone until you come watch these girls play the game they just do not understand the speed and power some of the girls have. I would rather watch a softball game more then a football sometimes. i get two more high school season then who know what?

We had to deal with that and it was very scary for us. Then they did not have a freshman team so she played JV and had to be at the VAR games all the time. She found a permint seat next to the coach and once a week we asked her OK what did hear that you need answered this week.

I think NDA is breaking the culture with regards to AAU, Soccer and Club Volleyball and with the parents and administration. The coach is building numbers - Frosh, JV and Varsity - so that not only are the younger girls limited to the exsposure to the older girls and their "experiences", but they are all learning the fundamentals and should get playing time. Also, with such good athletes, some are getting cut from other sports because of the strong number of athletes in each class, so softball is finally getting the talent, albeit perhaps castoffs of the other sports. Convinced the administration to let the best players play varsity regardless of age and grade last year when some 8th graders played varsity. I'd give them a couple years for this frosh class to stay together and they will be on the same level as Ryle and Conner.
