I can address some of the things on this thread from a pretty good position within the program:

Pikeville STARTED the season last year in the "traditional Wing-T." This was necessary to teach all 55 kids in the program a "base" system. From there, it became a "No-Huddle, Shotgun Spread" offense -- looks much more like WEST VIRGINIA U's current offense than the old Delaware Wing-T.

This is right on... Nonetheless, there's a way to win with kids that are NOT 6'5, 285. It won't be what those that remember "the good old days" want to see (unless we DO start somehow getting that-sized kids again -- OR when other teams we play do as little in the weight room as most other teams did back then). But that's okay; Oklahoma did pretty well when they finally realized they had to go away from "old-school wishbone" too!

Not me. You've got to play the best to ever hope to beat the best. We were NOT ready to beat a team like NCC last year in the first game of the season, but if we'd played someone we WERE ready to beat, we'd have known LESS about what we needed to improve. The best we ever got at my old school was when we started the season with LOSSES to teams like St. X and Male. Until "computer-rankings" determine who makes the playoffs in Ky., it's not how you do at the BEGINNING that matters; just how much better you are at the end. And regardless of the outcome of the last game, I doubt there is anybody who saw PHS at the beginning and end that could say we weren't a LOT better at the end.

Is what we run somewhat similar to Urban Meyers offense at Florida? Kinda seems to me its a variation of that spread offense he runs. I love what Copley is doing with the weight program. And what do you think about next years freshman class?

NCC is newport central catholic. The other county schools always played each other so considering that SV and ER and Central and Phelps played last year it will probably be SV vs Phelps and ER vs. Central.

I decided (well 99.9%)sure I will catch the four games in Louisville on Saturday night, and most likely a local game here in Ohio on Friday.

According to the roster on Khsaa website, NCC graduates 18 seniors. If anyone reads this that might know, please give an idea of just how many contributors the Breds lose and what they have coming back. I know the Vicars kid is back, and he is a stud.

 

Belfry loses some significant players as well, including 1st and 2nd team all-state D ends. They should reload fine tho.

IMO it depends on who will be QB next year. The O-line and D-line will be just as good. The running game will be as good or better.We will have very good receivers, it just depends who will be throwing it to them.I beleive there will be 3 fighting for the QB job.

NCC should have the an excellent OL and DL line next year as they return a lot of size and quickness. Burks will be one of the best returning LBs in NKY and along with Hellman and Franzen will be a tough core. Defensive backs will be new and you may even see Vickers play some DB if necessary. Some of the new ones are younger brothers of departing seniors.

 

On offense as stated above the QB situation is a key. QB/LB Harris was injured again early in the season and has missed almost all of Soph and Jr seasons. Frosh team QB Parr has the size and arm but is obviously inexperienced. NCC will run it early on next year, but developing the passing game will be another key.
