36th District Draw

Featured Replies

Now that the antiquated "let's draw straws", "best two out of three" or simple "flip a coin" has landed.......... we now know the pairings for the 36th District Torney to be played at Bellevue.

It's nice to see that this year's draw actually places the two top teams in a position to play in the finals with the match-ups as follows:

Newport v Dayton

NCC v Bellevue

Highlands v Newport/Dayton winner

Good luck to all.........

1st time in a while the luck of the draw has benefited both NC and HHS. Although last year as we know Newport won the Region, so who knows... The way HHS has been playing lately, beating Newport with the chance to face NC in the finals won't be an easy task.

Let's be honest. That's a weak district.

If Newport hadn't won the region last year I'd agree with you 100%... Despite that, I still agree with you that the 36th district is currently the weakest of the 4 districts which make up the 9th Region.

Hold on. The 34th is on the phone.

If you'll check your records, you will, I believe, see that only once in the past 14 years have Highlands and NewCath drawn into the same side of the bracket for basketball. So I guess all will be well in the world now that it is once again so.

Is the 36th or 34th weaker? Not sure. But districts are not suppose to be loaded, that is why they have regional tournaments.

Without checking any record, I know for a fact they played last year in the opening round and also opened against each other three years ago...........that would be two of the last three for anyone counting?

I do stand corrected. I skipped a year. It is actually three times in the last 15. God, it must have been very traumatic for them.

In addition to last year it happened in 1999 and 2008.

Still makes no sense to me why all districts are not seeded. This would eliminate this.

At least you are not in the 37th, where one very good team (Scott, Campbell Co, Brossart) is left at home each year.

We often see that in the 33rd and 35th.

Agreed! Ryle, Boone, Conner (and even Cooper) all have nice teams. In the 35th CovCath, Holmes, and Holy Cross.

If we're talking recent history let's not forget BW. They've had some nice teams over the last 4 or 5 years.

Looking at the last 14 seasons (counting this year), going back to 97/98, Highlands and NewCath have picked opposite sides 11 times with the seasons: 98/99, 07/08, & 09/10 being the 3 years they picked on the same side. In those 11 seasons where Highlands and NewCath picked opposite sides, Newport picked NewCath's side 7 times. In 98/99 & 07/08 Bellevue sneaked into the Regional and then in 09/10 Newport 'snuck' in :D with the 09/10 season being the only season in the last 14 that NewCath, Highlands & Newport picked on the same side.
