Who did the official book for Highlands?

 

I do not know the name of the person, but he was an older gentleman wearing glasses. Ted Otte kept the book for Conner. Unfortunately, this isn't the first error for the Conner scorekeeper. Conner JV was assessed a technical foul in a game about a month ago due to a number being recorded incorrectly in the scorebook.

I would think the proper time for the two scorekeepers to reconcile any differences would be during a dead ball and not while play is live.

Agree 100%. Or, blow the horn, stop the game, call over the officials, and get it fixed correctly if there is any doubt at all.

Agreed. The process should have been, to stop play, call over officials, call over Conners unnofficial scorer, and get it fixed. I'm not so sure I would get worked up about a Sat matinee JV game though.

If it happened which I doubt, it still was early in the game and numerous thibgs could have happened throughout the game after that point. It may have been a ten point lead with Conner up at the end and then this would be a moot point. Bottom line is Highlands outhustled the Cougars and made some big shots down the stretch to preserve the win.

 

What I don't get is why Conner didn't call a timeout when they had the ball down 3 with 15 seconds left to set up a good look to tie. Or why Highlands who had 3 fouls to give didn't use them up to force Conner to have to inbound the ball wasting more clock. Instead they kept passing it back and forth around the perimeter hoping for an open look which they didn't get due to the excellent defensive pressure by Highlands.

 

It was a great game to watch and my point about coming up short anyway was in jest. I'm not that big of a moron to not realize the coaching and play would have been different if the score were 2 pts closer at the end.

First of all, the error, without question, happened. Only point I was trying to make was that it affected the way the game was played in the final possession. The thing that shocked me the most was the attitude of the gentleman at the scorers table. It was as if they could have of never made a mistake. It was a very correctable error which should have been fixed, but they let arrogance get in their way and weren't willing to listen to anyone. I think you misinterpreted my post and somehow construed it as me calling you a moron. I would never do that and please forgive me if you took my post as demeaning. It was not meant to demean in any manner. I was also not saying that the error cost Conner the ball game, was just simply saying that the way the game was played in the final possession would have been different. Congrats to the Birds on the win. It was a fun game to watch and I look forward to watching these youngsters compete for the next several years. Lastly, Conner did have a good look at a 3, but the shot didn't go down.

No, he is strictly JV/Varsity. They dont need him on the Frosh team as they are loaded. They destroyed Conner's frosh 60-33. Geiman is doing a fantastic job with that group, utilizing 8-9 guys all the time and pressing all over the court demanding 110% effort.

Trust me, I am not impressed with the way the scorekeeping is done these days. Same guy you can barely hear at the football games over the intercom. I hate to be critical but at some point you have to pass the torch.

One other key matchup during this game was 6'6 Frosh Nick True (HHS) and 6'3 Drew Barker (Conner). These guys play on the same Tarheel Select AAU team that finished like 15th Nationally last summer. True went at Barker early on with some nice post moves, baby hooks, etc. Barker is really put together for a Frosh, he gets to the rim very well and plays strong. I look for these two to be Top 10 players very soon on the Varsity level.

 

Another nice player for the Cougars is soph Brady Padgett, he scored 5 straight at one point bringing them back. I dont believe he starts and didnt appear to play as much as I would have played him. Conner has very good coaches in Garnett and Padgett so they are in good hands and have a nice group there. I would expect them to get better over the remainder of the year. One player I didnt see on the court was soph Jared Kunkel. Did he hang it up for football?

Agreed. Fantastic job by Geiman. He will be tough to keep at the frosh level. Can easily see him coaching Varsity in the short term. Gets every ounce out of his players.
