GRC should handle the Colonels.

Covcath is really reeling right now and things aren't going to get much better with them facing the Cards.

 

Thelen will have his hands full down low with Zollo which means this will likely be an ugly game for the Colonels. I'd expect GRC's defensive pressure to really take a toll on the smaller CCH guards.

 

Expect to see the following match ups:

 

5'10 Machinot v 6'0 B. Stenzel (Correct me if I'm wrong, Goldie)

6'0 Reidenger v 6'4 Stenzel

6'5 Connelly v 6'5 Rogers

6'7 Baker v 6'6 Purvis

6'7 Thelen v 6'9 Zollo

Purvis will not start IMO he has been coming off the bench, will probably be Daniel or could be Moore...depending on the matchups. Who is Covington Catholic best player? That is who Rogers will guard.

This could be a difficult game for CCH because they really struggle on the boards. The aggressiveness of GRC will be the major difference. The rest for CCH over the next 5 days could really help them after playing 3 games in 4 days this week. GRC 71 - CCH 56.

Thelen is Covcath best player but I think Zollo would be better suited to defend him. He is a thick 6'7 though, so Rogers defending him wouldn't surprise me.

 

6'7 Baker is a long kid that can jump out of the gym. He is a clone of Daniel, build wise, only about an inch taller.

 

6'5 Connelly is extremely athletic and can also jump out of the gym. He was the state high jump champ last year as a junior and also a very good receiver for the Colonels. Strong kid that can play inside or out. Built like Stenzel, only about 10-15 lbs heavier and maybe an inch bigger.

 

These are Covcath's three best players, IMO. The key for the Colonels though is if Machinot can handle the pressure that GRC will apply. I listed him at 5'10 but he may be smaller than that. 6'0 Reidenger is the outside threat. In the games I've seen Covcath he has shot the ball well from outside. Covcath will have to be patient offensively. I don't think they can stop Clark Co on defense because of all the weapons the Cards have.

While GRC grew as a team at the beachball classic, I would have hoped that CCH would have done the same after their impressive showing at the LexCath x-mas tournament.
