TOG - how many did Baker and Mashinot end up with? I thought they each might have gotten 10 or so. And I agree about the D - and the play of the bench. I think hudy only got the one basket, but he played his best game of the year IMO.

 

Hudy did indeed rise to the occasion big time tonight and CovCath needs him like this every time he steps on to the court. This team is fun to watch as these kids just feed off each other and really don't want to let their friends/teammates down. No one seems to care who scores what, just as long as they win.

 

We had Mash with 9 and Andrew and Drew with 8 apiece!

Turning point in the game was the beginning of the 2nd half with the Colonels leading by 11 and Jake Thelen had only 6 points. Coach Shumate decided Jake was the guy to stop tonight. He came out in a box and 1 chasing Jake. Thelen got a stick back and the Colonels hit back to back 3's. Time out Beechwood and back to the man-to-man. Game over.

Machinot had 9 and Baker 8. Massie, Hayden and Arnzen each had 4, Hudy 2 and Ward 1. Bench points 25-2 in favor of CCH.

Our stat guys had 19 out of 31 baskets with assists. Machinot with 6 and 2 turnovers. Gutty performance with the thigh bruise from the HHS game. Game time decision to start him. Very wise to do so. I agree Hudy's best game of the year. He's filled his role very, very well for this team. Hard for a senior who started games last year to be so deep on the bench, he's a model for how to handle that. Busts his butt.

Indeed Hudy is an outstanding example and one that our young underclassmen should look up to and follow, that puts the needs of the team ahead of his own. Theoldguy tip his hat to you Mr. Hudephol Great job!

While Brett was indeed the man tonight on the "O" side of the ball and it was the second time this year that he has scored 17 points, it was the "D" by Baker and Connelly that I enjoyed watching. Baker had a total of three blocks and two of those caused the Crazies to go nuts, while Cubbie did a nice job all around the court.

 

Mashinot who was a question mark prior to the start of the game, did his usual job of driving the basket and dishing the ball around to his teammates and Schult again fed energy into the team.

 

CovCath received some solid minutes from their subs tonight Huedepohl, Hayden and Massie which kept the CovCath starters fresh in the fourth quarter.

 

BTW the huge dunk late in the game by Baker registered an 11 out of a possible 10, on the CovCath Crazies Fan Meter!

 

CovCath improves their record to 11-2 and next plays 35th District rival Covington Holmes this Tuesday @ CovCath in a 35th District seeding game. This game will be a triple header starting at 4:30pm and if you want to see the Varsity game, you just might want to get there during the JV game, as I think this game just might be a sell-out!

 

This game is not a triple header, the JV/Varsity play Tuesday and the Frosh play Wednesday.

Sounds like Beechwood did a nice job guarding Thelen to only 10 points! I cant't wait to see the two Colonels play. Dixie has the premier guards and CC has the big men, should make for a great game!

Covcath beats Henry Clay, who beats Lexcath, who beat Covcath handily first game of the season. Just goes to show you it's all about the match ups.
