1A East

With the loss of LCA to 2A will the East win a State Title before the next re-alignment?

For the sake of Eastern Kentucky, I certainly hope so, but with the result of today's game, I would say that it's looking rough.

Hazard is the only chance at a state title for the east, maybe Raceland but they haven't had a legitimate shot since 2008.

Those are my thoughts as well.

Gonna be a hard row to hoe for any East team, but I have to say that Raceland and Hazard will be there alot!

Mayfield's up & coming teams will have a shot at Class A for at least the next 5 years in the west along with Beechwood should be hard for ANY east team to win!!!

How did Raceland have a shot in '08? LCA and Hazard were both much better than Raceland.

It's very arguable. Raceland and LCA were about dead even, Raceland winning one, and LCA coming from behind to win the Regional Championship. Hazard beat LCA, but it is my opinion, and probably the opinion of some of the LCA folks that Raceland would have matched up a lot better against Hazard then LCA did. LCA was weak versus the run and Raceland was very strong versus the run, holding Hayden to 29 yards, probably his all time low. Would Raceland have beaten Hazard? It is possible. So, yes Raceland did have a shot in '08.

Raceland was very young this year, with a lot of freshmen and sophomores getting a lot of experience. Raceland will be good next season, but in my opinion they will be the strongest in two years, and about equally as strong in three years. Raceland will be in the discussion for the next four years.

Does that mean that last year it looked rough for the west?? LCA 55- Mayfield 19

Almost everything runs in cycles. The west will still win some and so will the east.

The Cardinals and Tigers are located on the top shelf of Class A football, and they both reside in the West.......

I wasn't counting LCA with them moving up to 2A

Add Fairview to that list. 1A East should be wide open, 1A West will once again come down to Mayfield/Beechwood. 32 teams and we know before the season which 5 or 6 will have a shot at making to the state-semis, and better yet, knowing that 2 or 3 really have a shot at winning it. Dang, this is going to get really boring.

Exactly..Excellent point.. IMO, Hazard was the best 1a team Mayfield played this year, despite what the score says. Crittenden played Mayfield the closest with Beechwood, 2nd closest, but, I'd still say Hazard was the better team, including Holy Cross, as well.

Hazard had the best offensive team, by far, of any of the other teams I saw. They hit harder on the defensive side, as well and there skill kids were a little faster and more athletic than Beechwoods. Penalties and turnovers were there downfall and the inability of there DL to get any pressure on Guhy and there CBs inability to cover the receivers. Mayfield just had too many options and looks for Hazard to contend with. With that said, the penalties, they weren't forced and 1 of the 2 fumbles wasn't forced, simply a bad exchange and dropped ball and you can't do that against a high scoring team. You have to be able to score with them and those mistakes didn't allow them to do that. I do give Mayfield credit for putting pressure on the QB and forcing the ints and for one of the fumbles was a solid hard hit that jarred the ball loose. However, Hazard moved the ball pretty well early in that game and I was impressed with 2-3 of there receivers and skill kids and there QB, albeit, a little slowafoot, was accurate and elusive.

Beechwood, I think, had a more fundamentally sound defense and there DL contained the run a little better, but, I don't think there offense would have been able to exploit Hazards defense near as much as Mayfield did and I don't think they were so good that they would have kept Hazard from scoring quite a few on them. On a neutral field with all penalties and turnovers being equal, I'd like Hazard by a score or 2 over the Beechies.

I do think either would handle Holy Cross, because they both had more team speed and athleticism, although there line play would have made it difficult for them to contain there power running game, but, in the end, I think they were a little too one dimentianal and slow beat a Bwood or Hazard.
