Always harping on the playing schedule/strength is a knock at the staff. There are games we have to play and games we go after. Now with the redistricting all the local schools are playing each other as district foe's as it should be. While the ultimate goal is a title run getting severely beat and a losing record year after year does nothing for moral or brining kids out. We have to have numbers in football. It's not like basketball or baseball where you can have just a couple dominating and good players to lead the team. A good running back or receiver can't do anything without the o-line giving the QB time to connect with the receiver or make holes from the RB to hit. Schools have to take stepping stones to get to that level. Should you have the solution to the scheduling issue then please enlighten everyone, but you can't come back and post negative comments and ridicule when numbers drop, kids are beat up, tired, negative, losing record and want to throw the towel in. Continuing to post about what we need to do or how to do it doesn’t do anything to improve anything. While I agree I probably can't compare years coaching experience as I'm just getting started and the other I don't have to argue about!

 

Ok Ill say this one more time, it WAS NOT a knock on the staff. One thing is evident you guys love the kids on this team as well as the players that have been in the system in years past. As a parent of those children, and as a person who has coached many, many of these kids there is nothing that means more and that includes wins and losses ! I would never second guess a coach in an open forum as it happens enough as it is.

My intent of the initial post was not to argue or debate but simply say hey look what the good teams do. I work with a guy who has close tie with Desales and they schedule 6a teams to prepare them for playoffs.

i am not saying we go schedule Trinity or St. X but come on you know the game. Does playing the Bracken like teams prepare you for a Holy Cross or NCC? No it does not, playing those type teams let you get by with things that the Holy Cross will expose. The 4 things you call mistakes would not have happened against the brackens of the world. That is all I am saying and YOU of all people should know that. I am surprised you took such offense to the post. Read some of this other stuff in the above posts, look at what people think of us. We want the same thing for our kids, not only the football team but our children. Its about expectations we just cant expect to beat up on the little guy and find ourselves lost against the big boys.

My suggestion get the Henrys of the world back on the schedule, keep the teams like Desales and Cal or similar teams and I guarantee you a district championship will return to CC very soon. While I am sorry you took offense to it, I am glad it got you to thinking about it. Love your intensity now spread it !!!!

I was standing next to him while he was talking to the reporter and what he actually said was that Carroll's Offensive Line dominated Holy Cross's Defensive Line most of the night, and how costly mistakes hurt CC in the game. I think that was evident to anyone who saw the game (although some might not admit that). Bottom Line is, that if Carroll can run up over 250 yards rushing on Holy Cross, then HC should buckle down and figure out a way to slow down DeSales or it is going to be a long night.

 

Oh, and True Blue quit playing oblivious; you're not that savvy.

I don't find TB&G's comments as a wanting to make enemies or having issues with this team, I agree with TB&G, the comments by the coach makes it seem like it was a close game if you didn't know the score, but losing 55-17 with is being 34-0 at the half and the losing team "dominated"?

Two things:

 

1) If the reporter misrepresented what the coach said, that would certainly explain the comments. I wonder why no one else offered that up earlier. It would have put an end to that issue earlier, as I will accept you at your word.

2) Why does everyone keep making this personal? I am not that savvy? I wasn't aware that you even know me. Regardless, save the personal jabs for the PMs.

All people that think Carroll County had any chance once the game started is sadly mistaken HC did what they wanted to do Ran 6 different plays and every aspect of the game was controlled by HC. I guess the guys defending Carrolls loss are coaches defending their job or something because HC respected Carroll as a team and Pulled all starters at one point of the game and Carrol left all starters in and they were able to score one more time. Not only was HC able to score, but they never had a drive more than 50 yards for a touchdown showing that HCs special teams was much more superior. As i stated earlier HC controlled the game in every aspect of the game!!

You'll find out next week.

 

You do realize that HC and Desales have met the past two years, granted Desales has played great and came out on top, and the games have been decided by ovetime 2 years ago and a last second interception by HC while driving for the win last year? Just wondering where the water in your argument is? I by no means am saying this game won't be close, HC has to play their best to win!:thumb:

Jason Tillett not sure why you are so defensive about things. The idea of the forum is to post opinions.

 

First I agree that Carroll needed to make some changes in order to get some wins. Getting your head smashed in does not do anybody any good.

 

Second.........IF Carroll desires to make a next step now that you are winning some games some improvement on the schedule may be necessary...............That is not a knock on the coaching staff................that is more looking towards the future and the direction the program might be headed. That does not mean to change the schedule entirely and go crazy..........but maybe look at one team that significantly upgrades the schedule.

 

Third.......the coaches comments in the paper seem to be sour grapes..................

 

Fourth I am very familiar with the Carroll County program all the way back to the Doug Berry head coaching days. So I know the ups and downs and I feel currently Carroll is on a good path. Unfortunately from a playoff perspective they are light years away from ever competing with NCC Holy Cross or Newport................

I'm guessing you are referring to all Carroll County athletics reds fan? Being that the football program has the hardest schedule in the entire school. I also don't understand your logic. Take Holy Cross for example, they beat the schools they were supposed to and with the exception of Beechwood got whipped by the ones they were supposed to. However in the end they will only play 1 more week than Carroll. So I hope they enjoy that win against Carroll because according to your logic they will take 4 whippings for the sake of beating Carroll County, because Holy Cross's season ends next week. I don't want to argue on an ammature website, but disagree with you on this one.

 

Without a shadow of a doubt our program is headed in the right direction. Our numbers are tremendous and the work being put in by the players and coaches year round support that. The camps, weightlifting, pride and morale are great things to see.

The foundation has to be laid prior to building a good team, and that has been done now its time to move to the next step. Next year our district becomes very possible to win. However do not overlook and up and coming Walton team that you have beat every year since their inception into football.

I think everyone realized we could not compete for a dist. championship with CAL and DeSales and that somewhat deflated us when we played them and similar teams in the playoffs. Each time we faced teams of that caliber it was in a must win game whether it be in a district game or a playoff game, and that only magnified the pressure being put on the kids. However what would have happened had we played a Henry Co. or a similar team in place of a Bracken or someone else in a game without such high stakes? I would think we would get used to that physciality as well as the speed of the game which in turn would have better prepared us for the big games when they mattered.

 

I am all for building confidence in the kids but personally I think there are enough of those types of games built into our schedule because of the scheduling grid. On JT's point I dont think we would go 1-9 or 2-8 simply because of the built in games and how far our program has came in the past couple years.

 

Now here comes the real logic to beefing up the schedule. As stated we knew going in we could not compete for a district championship with CAL and Desales but we feel we can now with the re districting.

We beat Owen in a very close game and Walton is on the fast track to having one heck of a program. Would you rather have a team that has prepared vs a Henry like team or a team that has prepared against a team such as Dayton?

What happens to the kids morale if they lose to Owen and Walton and now they are thinking wow we cant even win this District ?

Strenthining the schedule a little is just the next step in winning a first round playoff game. Not only does is make you better but it possilby sends you into the first round as a district champion rather than a team that just gets to go because.... Being a champion produces a huge mental edge and serves as a springboard to bigger and better things.
