It is what it is. I would love to play Corbin. Good for HS football in the area.

The games that were mentioned in this thread were for 2013 and 2014 so the schedule for the next 2 years doesn't have anything to do with it.

If thats the case then why would he already have his schedule finished for the next 2 years. All Whitley wanted was for Corbin to say, " we will give you a home and home in 2013-14.

Corbin could play Whitley, Knox, Somerset, Middlesboro, Harlan Co, but they choose to play Tates Creek, Clark Co, Danville. Why travel to TC or GRC when they can go right down the road. Talk about money games if they played the 1st teams. Just curious but how many fans will travel from Lex or Clark or vice versa.

It's not really too bad of a trip to Danville, GRC or Tates Creek, the problem is that some of these teams don't bring many fans when they come to Corbin. The crowd at the GRC game was poor and the LCA game was average at best, whereas the money generated from a Whitley Co. or Knox Central game would really help the budget. I expect the football program will generate less money this year when compared with probably any of the the past 10-12 years. I'm kind of surprised that someone has not projected how much revenue is being lost due to scheduling and put some pressure on the scheduler to change the philosophy on it.

I understand that Coach Jewell has to be concerned with the present (playoffs) and if it is true the schedule is full for the next two years, but I am sure that if he were to give his word and the AD give his word that they play in 2013 that would be good enough. I believe that the money both schools would make if this game were played would off set any other of the concerns that Coach Jewell might have.

 

I am somewhat amazed that knowing that the Red Hound Varsity Club being one of the main sources of revenue for many of the non revenue sports, and a major contributor to other sports, including the football team, that the coach would not want to do whatever he could to assist and promote the club and the program by entering into an agreement to play Whitley. I don't think that it is unreasonable for Whitley to want to host a game like this too.

 

I think this would be a great situation for both schools. I think each would win their share of games and lose their share of games. This could be a great rivalry from the very start.

 

It would be a game that would draw fans from all over and the atmosphere would be unbelievable, something for the kids to re-live and talk about for years, I am just disappointed that it is not going to happen.

Whitley and Knox Co. both dropped Corbin many years ago and would not play them, not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. They did play Knox Central a couple of years ago in the Pigskin, although those games are scheduled by the Varsity Club and not Coach Jewell. He has his reasons I guess for not scheduling these teams, the players,fans, and You and I may not agree with it, but until it becomes a financial liability, I don't expect anyone to force his hand on this.

I am sure the reasons Whitley had for dropping them are long since dead and history now. I think that it may be a while before it becomes a financial liablility not to play, but honestly it should not come to that. It would be a great game, one coaches love to coach, kids love to play.

If memory serves me right, 1969 or 1970 was the last time Corbin and Whitley played in anything other than a jamboree. I know they haven't played them since I started at Whitley in '72.

It just makes no sense to go to Lexington when they can go to Whitley or Knox. It isnt like Corbin isnt any good and cant compete, I say they are scared to lose to those teams for reasons known to the program. talk about a lot of people and publicity from the news if those games happened. Now I guess in 2 years things may change.

This has nothing to do with either side being scared of the other. The underlying reasons really do not matter. There are few that really know them. However, there have been various "powers that be", out side of the football programs, keeping them from playing during this time frame. Looks like things are starting to change, though.

 

Correct me, if I'm wrong, but Whitley offering up a home and home shows a major change in attitude on the that side of the isle. Does it not? That wouldn't have been allowed for consideration just a year ago. Would it? The invitation would have been rejected outright.

Corbin beat Whitley 37 - 0 in 1983. I have the newspaper. I am positive the 2 teams played '79 - '83, and I think they played every year up until '85 or so. Whitley ended the series and has refused to play Corbin several times since.

 

With that said I see no reason not to agree to a home and home contract in 13/14.

 

I think a Corbin schedule that included Whitley, Knox, North, South, Williamsburg and Lynn Camp would be great along with the 4 district games...

Okay! Lets do, it with your own kids too! Sounds great! Lets mix a little past, with some true present! Love to see what the kids that truly live in corbin can do!

Don't hate on the kids in the past or present that want to play on winning team!:irked:
