Members of the Progressive Caucus won't do that, or they'll get primaried. The base only wants the bill to be stronger. In fact, the country (not surprisingly) is pretty evenly split between wanting repeal and wanting it to stay in place or do more.

 

Besides that, the Democrats who supported the healthcare bill survived competitive challenges at a 50% rate. Blue Dogs that voted against HCR lost 2-1. So repeal doesn't look that appealing even to fiscally conservative Democrats.

I expect obstructionism and gridlock on a monumental scale.

 

An article in Tuesday's Ky. Enquirer, by a Kevin Hassett, gave stats that shows divided government produces results that has lead to better economic times, than when 1 party has complete control of the federal government.

I guess I will be the sucker and expect the new blood to keep their promises and begin to changes things. I will give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong.

 

The new blood does not have the numbers to control anything, unless they can convince the RHINOS and conservative Dems to work with them in both houses.

Each time period is unique, but the idea is that nothing will be accomplished if they do not sit down and find some common ground. Also, the business world looks and sees limited interference from DC and see that as a postive.

McConnell says Obama, Democrats must change

 

“The White House has a choice: they can change course, or they can double down on a vision of government that the American people have roundly rejected,” McConnell said. “If they choose the former, they’ll find a partner in Republicans. If they don’t, we will have more disagreements ahead.”

Moreover, McConnell defended — and expanded upon — his pre-election declaration that his primary goal was to ensure that Obama serves only one term. The GOP’s goals require “someone in the White House who won’t veto any of these things,” he said

 

Obama announced Thursday that he would convene a Nov. 18 meeting with McConnell, Reid, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, who will become speaker in January, and current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. The announcement was made before McConnell’s speech to the Heritage Foundation.

“This is going to be a meeting in which I’ll want us to talk substantively about how we can move the American people’s agenda forward,” Obama told reporters. “It’s not just going to be a photo op.”

 

Over the past week, some have said it was indelicate of me to suggest that our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny President Obama a second term in office,” McConnell said. “But the fact is, if our primary legislative goals are to repeal and replace the health spending bill; to end the bailouts; cut spending; and shrink the size and scope of government, the only way to do all these things is to put someone in the White House who won’t veto any of these things.”

The Senate GOP leader added: “We can hope the president will start listening to the electorate after Tuesday’s election. But we can’t plan on it. And it would be foolish to expect that Republicans will be able to completely reverse the damage Democrats have done as long as a Democrat holds the veto pen.”

 

But he insisted that Republicans haven’t given up on working with Obama.

“The American people reminded us this week that we work for them, and we owe it to them and future generations to work together to find solutions to present troubles and to help guide our nation to better days,” McConnell said.

“The formula is simple, really: when the administration agrees with the American people, we will agree with the administration,” he said. “When it disagrees with the American people, we won’t …If the administration wants cooperation, it will have to begin to move in our direction.””
