The fact of the matter is that Clinton was a very good President. Much more moderate than the haters want to believe. His libido kept him from being one of the top 10 presidents ever IMO. But I digress. Back to this most interesting discussion. Obama and Nixon comparison. Who would have thunk it?

The President has to be the one to extend his hand first. This President hasn't done that at any point. He has taken shots at the republicans every chance and made sure to tell the people who is at fault for what is going on. It's grown tiresome and it isn't working.

Again, I will say the country is in no better shape now then it was when he took office. The President can blame everyone he wants for that but the fact is it starts with him.

Some of the President's supporters would say his actions have managed to keep things from getting worse. That is debatable, but there is no doubt that he inherited a lousy economic situation.

The President is the one who is ultimately remembered/blamed/praised for what happens during his term in office. He is also the one who is ultimately responsible for the direction of the country. It is without a doubt part of his responsiblity to make sure things get done while in office. Once he has started the process of bring the other side to the table I would agree they share in the responsibility to achieve common goals. However I just don't agree that Obama made a serious attempt to bring the republicans to the table.

Of course they will say the things he did keep things from getting worse. It's kind of like him touting the number of jobs he saved. It can never be proven. I don't disagree that he inherited one of the biggest messes of any President but he sure hasn't done much to make it better.

You don't need to have an axe to grind to talk about things about his policies you dislike if you indeed do. If you get that those with different opinions than yours means they think their beliefs are better than anyone else's, then politics and policies are the least of your problems. :lol:

I suspect the Obama administration's contention is that the stimulus actually saved the economy from getting worse than it would have without it ... I don't know that it's true, but it could be a valid position to take.
