Clyde
Pitcher Daryll Thompson, who some Reds fans latched onto as potential savior, only to find him wanting. The Reds also got Royce Clayton and Brendan Harris and gave up Ryan Wagner, who obviously disappointed in Washington. Who did they get for those 3? This could go on and on. It's hard to evaluate a trade without following all of the transactions.
LRCW
Nope. We traded Casey for Dave Williams. . You're right. I get those two mixed up. He was another Pirate lefty that sucked.
SSC
I'll take Volquez over Josh Hamilton. I wouldn't. The Rangers wouldn't make that trade back either.
Clyde
I wouldn't. The Rangers wouldn't make that trade back either. Still too early for me to say either way. I'm hoping for more out of EV.
HammerTime
I wouldn't. The Rangers wouldn't make that trade back either. They both got what they wanted out of that deal. There is more to meets the eye than just a player for player swap.

At the time the Reds made the deal I would have done it if I were the Reds, but if they could trade back right now I'd take Hamilton in a heart beat. Yeah Phillips was a cry baby and hated that Hamilton was better than him and got "special" attention.
HammerTime
Yeah Phillips was a cry baby and hated that Hamilton was better than him and got "special" attention. It wasn't just Phillips. Next year when Volquez wins 15 games and Hamilton only plays in 100 because he gets hurt how will you feel?

Didn't people use that "he won't play many games next year " line last year? 140 games later?

Clyde
He has played in 210 over the last 2 seasons. He played in 140 this year. I think Texas is cool with the trade.

SSC
I think Cincinnati is as well. Volquez was a stud for one half of one year. Plus he hasn't exactly played 3 full seasons since he's been a Red.
Clyde
I think Cincinnati is as well. Agreed but that doesn't mean they were "happy" to get rid of Hamilton. They weren't looking to dump him.
Clyde
Volquez was a stud for one half of one year. Plus he hasn't exactly played 3 full seasons since he's been a Red. 17 wins in 09 was impressive. If he can match that for the next couple of years it will have been a good trade for both.
