Grant County travels to Buckner to take on the Colonels of Oldham County in a 5A, District 4 matchup on Friday.

For Oldham - which has only three home games this year - this is homecoming.

Grant County is a very young team, but a team that is improving rapidly under Coach Mike Davis. Sophomore quarterback Nathan Davis - the coach's son - is savvy beyond his years and makes the Braves go.

Oldham County is trying to three-peat as district champs, and needs to take care of business in a rare home game in order to do so. Third year coach Matt Brown is 11-0 vs. district opponents to date.

The game will be broadcast on the Pegasus Sports Network, beginning at 7 pm. Go to http://www.pegasussportsky.com, and click on the Oldham County logo, then click on the game listing under "Upcoming / Live Broadcasts." The game will also be available as an archive to hear later.

Current district standings:

Oldham County 2-0

South Oldham 2-1

Anderson Co. 1-1

Jeffersontown 1-2

Grant County 0-2

Oldham clinches a home field game in the first round of the playoffs with a win over Grant this week, and claims a third straight district title if they win and South beats Anderson.

South Oldham claims their first-ever home playoff game by clinching at least second place if they defeat Anderson this week. If they lose to Anderson this week, they are almost certain to be on the road in the playoffs.

Anderson County can still win the district by defeating South Oldham this week and Oldham County next week, regardless of what anyone else does. An Anderson County win this week gives them a leg up in claiming a first-round home playoff game, although the possibility of South, Anderson, and Jtown all finishing at 2-2 looms as a distinct possibility.

Jeffersontown will be a heavy favorite against Grant in their final district contest, but is most likely headed on the road for the playoffs.

I got distracted and didn't finish my last post. I mentioned all the teams except Grant.

The Braves are behind the proverbial 8-ball at 0-2 in the district, but they can still fight their way to the playoffs. They'll be underdogs in both games, but they can still claim the fourth playoff spot even if they lose to Oldham. A win over Jeffersontown could be enough to put the Braves in (unless they end up in a three way tie for the final two playoff spots). Of course, if they can upset both Oldham and Jtown, they assure themselves of a berth.

Even though Grant is in last place right now, Coach Davis has to appreciate the fact he doesn't need any help from any other teams to earn a playoff spot; the Braves' future remains in their hands.

Coach Davis better hope for a win against J-town. They will not win against Oldham Co.

Last year's game: Oldham County 7, Grant County 0 in Dry Ridge. It was anything but "DRY", though, as the game was played on a very muddy field...

Looks like a "fast track" for tonight's affair.

Grant County will try to rely on their defense to keep this one close late. Oldham will counter with a rushing attack that has prospered since district play began. Brett Leary has over 300 yards rushing in two district games against South Oldham and Jeffersontown, and 5 rushing scores....

If Grant can keep it close late, they will have the advantage of a powerful kicker in Preston Cahill, who really impressed me with his leg last week against South, although he missed two of three field goals. He definitely has the leg to hit from 45 yards out - a 46 yard attempt was dead-on straight against South, but he was short by only a foot or two...

It is senior night / homecoming for Oldham County, the Oldham Class of 1980 will be showing up in force to celebrate their 30th year, and in addition, both teams will sport a lot of PINK as the Colonels recognize Breast Cancer Awareness. A portion of the gate and proceeds from some fund-raisers will be going to breast cancer research. (This is part of an Oldham County HS athletics initiative that charges the school teams to adopt some civic cause that their athletes can contribute time/efforts to).

Mike Montgomery and Tom Hawkins have the call of tonight's game on the Pegasus Sports Network, beginning at 7 pm, at http://www.pegasussportsky.com
