I'm wondering how many people's religious affiliation is different than their parents.

 

For those of you who answer "different religion" could you please note if it's the same religion as your spouse.

I can't edit the poll and need to expand on the options. First option should say "same religion, same denomination/sect of at LEAST one parent". Second one should say "same religion, different denomination of BOTH parents". Third one, "different religion of BOTH parents". Oops.

I'm curious to see how many former Catholics there are.

I'm not 100% sure how to answer this:

 

I am Catholic, my mother is Catholic, but doesn't go to church. My father doesn't believe in organized religion.

 

 

For the sake of the poll, I'm going to vote the same as at least one.

Same religion, but I prefer the non-denominational approach to Christianity.

My stepmom doesn't go to church but definitely calls herself Catholic (as an aside, all 3 of my half-siblings are baptized Catholic, Catholic schooled, etc.). Is your mother the same?

My parents are Southern Baptists (the way I was raised).

Unbelievably, extremely supportive. Of course, it helps that they were (and still are) very enamored with my husband. They also understood my wish not to have a divided household on religion. To know my husband is to realize what a deeply Catholic man he is and my parents respected that, as well as my ability to make my own choices. Personally, I always felt like if God hadn't intended me to convert, he wouldn't have sent me my Catholic soulmate. He would've just given me some nice Baptist guy.

 

As my dear sweet Grandma said to me when I told her my plans, "honey, there will be Catholics in Heaven, too..." :lol:

I guess that's what the situation is with my mom. She was raised Southern Baptist, becasue my grandfather was Southern Baptist and wouldn't allow my Catholic grandmother to go to Catholic church or take my mom and her sisters. My mother converted when she was 21. She and my dad married in the Catholic church, and raised all of us Catholic. But my mom hasn't attended Catholic mass or any service since my sisters and I were old enough to walk to church by ourselves. My father, as I mentioned, doesn't belong to any denomination, not believing in organized religion. She occasionally used to watch the Mass on Air. Since our arrival to adulthood, I'm the only one of my siblings to remain Catholic, and I'm the only one to raise Catholic children.

Wouldn't that be "Same religion, different denomniation/sect. of BOTH parents" instead of "different religion than BOTH" parents? I know most consider Baptists and Catholics as denominations of Christianity and not totally different religions.

Southern Baptist, but I have moved to the Cooperative Side and mom has remained conservative.

As far back as we can trace my forebearers we have been Catholic on both sides of my family . In fact my Fathers siblings gave him the nickname "Pope Harry " I have a Catholic prayer book printed in German that belonged to my great grandfather ( Mother's paternal grandfather ) dated 1863 and we have the Reisepass ( Travel Pass ) dated 1867 permitting another great grandfather ( Fathers paternal grandfather ) to travel to North America through Prussia that states that he is Catholische . My son married a non-Catholic and now attends the " Church of Christ " with his family .
