Is There a Better 1A District then District 5?

Again .. I am waiting for the joke.

Lets not make this a question of who knows more football ... as Drago said in Rocky 4 .. "YOU WILL LOSE"

Lets also not make the mistake of caring whether you lose respect for me .... no one cares ... and it isn't worth mentioning in this forum.

I will ask one question ... and one question only: Why are you talking out of both sides of your mouth? You say that Fairview hasn't played anyone .. yet you say that over the past four years they could beat anyone in the NKY district other than Beechwood. Not sure that makes a lot of sense. You basically made the point yourself that Fairview was undefeated because they haven't played anyone. Very hard to take you seriously when you yourself admit that a "ranked" team in your district isn't playing any good teams (meaning--they have beaten poor teams--which is why they are ranked to begin with--remember--YOU said as much yourself).

Here is an example (just one ... for now) ... last year ... an upstart/fairly new program nearly beat Frankfort (which was "ranked" at the time--which again means NOTHING), the next week ... the 2nd seed in the NKY district beat them. The only team in your district that would have beaten Frankfort last year was LCA.

How many times are you matching up with ranked teams from the other district in the playoffs? (Here's a clue--NOT OFTEN). You are winning more because you are playing worse teams. Conversely, the NKY district was smacking you guys around for years and years (and would again).

I find it hard to believe that you guys are tooting your own horns when you are beating sub-par competition (each other) with the exception of LCA.

Can't we have a civil debate without being condescending? I mentioned my respect for you because I know you to know a lot about the subject, it was a compliment. As for my football knowledge, do you know that you know then me? Maybe you do, or at least you may know different things then me, but I happen to know a few things about this topic as well and am not just tooting my horn.

Yes, I do think that Fairview has played a weak schedule, but isn't it possible for a good team to play a weak schedule? I started that thread because I know Fairveiw to be good and wish for them to beef up their schedule. Are the going to beat every team in the state? No. But they are a very good 1A team and are heading in the right direction with a good coach and building enthusiasm for the program.

Yes, when we were playing NKY in the playoffs we got beat most of the time, but that was then and this is now. Some teams have gotten better and some have fallen off some. We were mostly getting beat by Beechwood and NCC. I have already given you Beechwood who is very close to LCA, but NCC is now gone and Belvue is down. Who else would be better then the three teams in District 5, you already have Beechwood, who else?

quickslick, to be fair, years ago, I would have agreed with you. With Beechwood, NCC, and Belvue the NKY district was very strong, and without a doubt the best 1A district at the time. But, NCC is gone, and Belvue of 2000's is not the Belvue of years ago.

LCA is strong, possible as strong as Beechwood for the last two or three years. Yes, I know Beechwood beat them in the finals two years ago, but not by much and it could be argued they were fairly equal. Raceland and Fairview are and have been better then the two and three team from NKY the last three or four years. I don't see how you could argue with that.

Lets make sure that we are speaking to the facts:

*Beechwood beat LCA in 2007. It doesn't matter that it was "close" ... it matters who won. End of story.

*LCA has beaten Beechwood ONE time in history.

*I agree that LCA would have beaten any team last year.

*2008--No other A team would have beaten Beechwood. While it was only 14-7 against Hazard ... find any other team that gave up 5 unforced fumbles in any game--and would still win in A. (Lets not forget--the powerhouse from your district got beat by the same Hazard team that could not capitalize on those 5 fumbles.

*The only team that would have beat Bellevue in 2009 from your district was LCA. Ricky Buckler alone would have beaten Raceland, Fairview or any other team that you would have thrown out there.

*The teams in NKY play much, much, much better competition on a week to week basis than any school in your district with the exception of LCA.

*I see no place where you have backed this up with facts.

*I would argue that the district that we are match up with now (Frankfort, Eminence, Trimble Co and Gallatin County) have given our district more competition than your district could have given us.

The aforementioned statements are the facts ... and I am sticking to them.

Slick just because you begin your tirade with the word "Facts" does not make it true, Is "Ricky Buckler alone would have beaten Raceland, Fairview or any other team......." a fact? That is pure speculation.

Again, I know the win is that all that matters, but for the sake of this argument, LCA was close to Beechwood.

As for backing it up with facts, this is pure opinion, there are no fact except for when LCA played Beechwood. The rest is speculation. You feel the NKY district has been stronger and I feel different. It's not like I concocted this opinion, people have said on here for several years that District 5 was the strongest 1A district top to bottom. I just started a thread on the topic.

I guess these statements wasn't condescending: "Keep reliving the 80's and 90's if you wish slick, but I think most people know more about football then you are giving them credit for. And if you believe the manurer your spreading then I lost a lot of respect for you."

For real ... lets try to put something in my corner ... when you threw the first punch. Rocky Balboa didn't play that way ... neither do I.

Real quick:

2001: NKY was 3-1 (your lone winner was Paris against Holy Cross--probably in their 1st or 2nd year of football with a 2nd round exit)

2002: NKY was 311 (your lone winner was Raceland over Dayton--with a 2nd round exit)

2003: NKY was 3-1 (your lone winner was Fairview over Dayton--with a 2nd round exit)

2004: Even 2-2 (LCA and Fairview were first round winners--and both lost to the historic powers in the 2nd round)

2005: NKY was 3-1 (your lone winner was LCA--which beat Beechwood in the 2nd round and lost to NCC in the 3rd)

2006: The districts played each other .... NCC vs. LCA.

That settles the past.

As far as now goes ... I think that LCA is the only team that would stand a chance of beating anyone from this district. The best that you could hope for is a push (with both the NKY district and your district winning the 1/2 seeded games.

You say that other teams have gotten better. Well ... I say that the district that NKY teams plays now is better (they have won a higher percentage of games than the old district match ups .... ). Who is right? Who knows. But one thing I know for sure ... the only way that we will ever find out is if these teams start playing each other again. With the new alignment ... lets see if Raceland tries to schedule Beechwood, Bellevue, Brossart, Ludlow, Dayton or Walton. I would bet money that that doesn't happen. And I am pretty sure that I know the reason why.

It's not like I concocted this opinion, people have said on here for several years that District 5 was the strongest 1A district top to bottom. I just started a thread on the topic.

Which people are those? Several years? Well ... I just debunked that myth ....

You were doing better when you mentioned the last 3-4 years!

It is hard for me to believe that anyone who has seen both districts--and pretty much all the others ... that they would say that district 5 is the toughest from top to bottom.

It is even harder after seeing LCA and Raceland blow those teams out BADLY the last 3-4 years.

Remember last year .... how many people said that Bellevue was the better team than Beechwood? A LOT. A WHOLE BUNCH! And it wasn't just Bellevue people who were saying that.

In the end .. I think that we have both come to the same conclusion ... there is really no way to know at this point. We both have our thoughts .. which is great. In the end ... there is only one way to find out.

Oh, since you mentioned it, could Raceland play Bellevue next year? Maybe. We will have to see.

In fact, LCA, Raceland, and Fairview are not that far apart this year, they are really all close to one another. But, by the admission of some of the Beechwood fans, Beechwood is not as strong this year as normal. There was even a thread on it a while back, I'm sure you remember it, I think you posted in it. But, even with Beechwood down by Beechwood standards they layed some big numbers on Walton and Dayton so can we really put them in the top of the district?

I know you are very passionate about this topic and I don't want to offend you any further so I will stop and let some other chime in. I think we have given them quite a bit of food for thought.

Lets make sure that we are speaking to the facts:

*Beechwood beat LCA in 2007. It doesn't matter that it was "close" ... it matters who won. End of story. (fact)

*LCA has beaten Beechwood ONE time in history. (fact)

*I agree that LCA would have beaten any team last year. (Not a Fact)

The aforementioned statements are the facts ... and I am sticking to them.

My responses to your statements in order:

*It does matter that it was close, yes beechwood proved to be the better team but not by much.

*LCA and BW have played 3 times total. If i remember correctly, LCA lost to BW in 2004 (4 years after LCA's first season of varsity football and one year after Coach Rains' first seaon), Beat BW in 2005 (5 years of varsity football total and 3 years of "actual" football), and lost in 2007 in a very close game.

*Agreed

*IMO Raceland could have beaten BW and Hazard, but was upset by LCA.

*Once again, opinion you claimed as fact.

*I know Beechwood plays a very tough schedule, but this is once again an opinion. (I don't know much about other NKY teams schedules so this may be true, but still not a provable fact)

*Your not one to talk about backing up stuff with facts.

*IMO, we are a decisivly better district than the one you mentioned.

I personally agree with Ram. Slick makes some very good points as well but for right now and in the past few years imo it has been district 5. Yes, for many years before that there was no question it was the NKY districts. Even in the late 70's,80's and most if not all of the 90's NKY class A pretty much ruled the state. Should I be forgetting someone then I apologize, during those years I was used to being beaten badly by mostly Beechwood and NCC, in the late 70's and early 80's Bellevue and Ludlow were plenty tough. Ludlow had a state title and the Sutkamp (spelliing?) led Bellevue teams just rolled everyone. From then on it was Beechwood and NCC. I have often joked on here that Raceland should have had Budweiser as a sponsor bc we were Beechwood aged:ohbrother:ohbrother:.

Now that I have given our friends up North their well deserved credit (and they are still very good). I believe that #5 with LCA,Raceland and Fairview (the Eagles are very good now, certainly not like all the years before) is the best overall had the best district in the state.

I have given mu opinion now so I will give this back to Slick and Ram and enjoy the debate.:popcorn::D

Good post Eagle 5.

Again ... another weak post--which seems fitting since we are talking about weak districts.

*If I recall--the trophy from 2007 currently resides at 54 BEECHWOOD ROAD, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017. There is no "we played really really good--and it was really really close state championship trophy". You lost--and the BEST team won.

*More excuses ...... boring. The sense of entitlement that LCA fans have had since the game in 2004 (how dare Beechwood win a game 62-14 .. especially when LCA was winning after the 1st quarter 14 to 0!). It hasn't stopped since that point--and the chip on your shoulder continues to grow. Like I said .. boring.

*Raceland beat Beechwood in 2008? Well, that makes no sense since LCA beat them, then Hazard beat LCA. As I said--Beechwood beat the team that beat LCA AND gave up 5 unforced fumbles. Making that many mistakes and still winning says something (and it isn't saying that Raceland would have beat them). If Beechwood would played Raceland--it would have been worse (even with 5 fumbles).

*I agree on the tough schedule part. It only matters if those games are wins.

*My facts? You have absolutely nothing to back up your "theory" either. You have had one state champion out of your district in the past 10 years. ONE. And it was the best team in your district. The NKY district has had multiple championships--from their best teams (which means both districts are simply top heavy).

As I stated last night--the NKY district has played tougher match ups with Frankfort, Eminence, Trimble County and Gallatin County than they ever did with the district in question.

If anything .. it is a push. Just because all of you guys play bad football together ... doesn't mean that it is a tough district. Competitive MAYBE. Tough .... doubt it.

Just one other thought on this and about "if" this and "if" that............."Should if's and but's be candy and nuts then we would all have a merry Christmas."

Just one other thought on this and about "if" this and "if" that............."Should if's and but's be candy and nuts then we would all have a merry Christmas."

And I am 100% sure that goes both ways.

I have never seen so many double standards in one thread.

Oh well .... maybe Mayfield isn't the best Class A team in the history of Class A football ... maybe it is LCA or Raceland .. OR Fairview ...

:ohbrother: Relax slick, I was making a joke. You are certainly entitled to your opinion as is everyone else on this thread and you know what opinion are like.......everybody has one :D.

I'll leave now so you can go get upset at someone else's opinion that doesn't agree with yours. Of course if you insist on one of the four you mentioned in your post then I'll vote Raceland

See ya later.

I think that you are the one upset that someone didn't agree with YOUR opinion.

I refuted it with facts.

You and your district 5 cronies can't seem to come to grips with that.

The proof is in the hardware ..... 1 for you guys ... a whole truckload for NKY.

That isn't opinion ... it is FACT. Get over it .. and move on.

I have never seen anyone from your district play but I would say Beechwood is a extremely good 1A football team. I have also said this in another post, anyone who takes this Walton Verona team lightly does so at their own peril. I also believe Bishop Brossart and Bellevue are good teams as well. Sounds like we need to settle this on the football field. That is where I always say it should be settled.:D
