I know that these are stupid, but....NewCath just beat CovCath, and they've beaten Dixie. Both are ranked ahead of them in Dave Cantrall's system. How is that possible?

Well.......Bellevue is 10 points better than Walton in the Lit .ratings. Somebody better go tell those guys from Walton who just beat Bellevue that they are really 10 points lower than the Tigers so they might want to give the win back................................In all serious I hate these ratings. I do not see Ryle as being the 2nd best 6A team in the state and certainly think Mayfield could beat a lot of teams (ranked 16 overall) ahead of them in the Lit. ratings.

It's clear there are inconsistencies in the ratings. I think they do usually get a bit more accurate at the end of the regular season, when each team has a full-year's body of work to be used as data points by Lit and Cantrall.

I'm typically a bigger Lit fan than Cantrall. We can all point out reasons why one team should be ahead of another, and Garrard County is an example of that this week. But I agree with some previous posters that they do typically get better as the year progresses.

 

What I don't like about the Cantrall ratings is they appear to build off of previous seasons. For example, Shelby County was very high early, even though they were losing with regularity (mostly because their players all went to Collins), but since "Shelby County" was good last year they kept a high ranking. Litkenhous doesn't appear to start like that.
