Garrard County travels to Wayne County on Friday night in what will be a pivotal Class 3A-District 5 opener for both teams. Somerset has established themselves as the clear district favorite but it appears to be wide open for the second spot (and a home playoff game) between Garrard, Wayne, Casey County and perhaps even Taylor County. The winner of this game will go a long way toward gaining that #2 spot.

 

Garrard County started the season with three losses but picked up an impressive victory over Estill County last weekend. Wayne County is also 1-3, with their lone win coming in a shutout of McCreary Central two weeks ago.

 

Garrard County is averaging 24 points per game while allowing 41.8 per game. Wayne County is averaging 22 per game while allowing 31. It appears that these teams are both evenly matched on both sides of the ball.

Garrard County has really struggled on defense and was the beneficiary of a bunch of unforced Estill County fumbles last week. With Estill's deliberate offense those turnovers spelled doom. Wayne hasn't been overly impressive on offense but I think the home field might decide this one. I'll take Wayne County at home 35-34.
