I saw Rowan a couple of times this summer. I still think they're a notch below Elliott. However, I don't think that there is much separation at the top, and I suspect that as February winds down there will be about 5/6 teams that have a shot at the region. I have no doubt that Rowan and Elliott and Ashland will be 3 of them. And let's not forget that the winner of the 64th gets a bye (due to the RH sanction in year 2, not that it would have mattered). May give Ashland a little edge. Maybe not.

You saw Rowan without Wing or Cross or both in most cases. They never played a game together this summer I don't believe. I saw them several times; Ashland beat them 10 and Delaney and Townsend were the 2 best players on the floor. The trio of Wing, Townsend, and Cross will be a handful for ANYBODY, and the 6'7 kid, Hunter, has gotten better. It will be a lot of fun watching West, Ashland, Elliott, and Rowan jockey for position all year.

Wing and Cross did not play together this summer as Cross had a pulled hamstring from track and didn't play this summer. Rowan was in the final four this summer at the AAU tournament in LEX. The 6'7" Hunter kid is very much improved, don't overlook him. Hunter and Knipp will be a good matchup to watch. Rowan also has a 6'6" kid in Goodpaster that can shoot the three's when he gets hot. Townsend and Cross at the 1 and 2, with Wing and Goodpaster at the 3 and 4 and Hunter at the 5 will be something to watch this year. This is the best shot at Rupp that Rowan Co will have in many years. The Ashland and Rowan Game will be on Wazoo Sports this year, also something to watch. I think Rowan, Ashland, Elliott as 1,2,3.

Rowan is the team to beat. Size, scorers, shooters and the pg transfer was the final piece to the puzzle.

Didn't mean to agree with myself, was trying to reply to someone else's comment. Evidentally, I don't know how to do that yet.

Elliot County or Rowan County will fight it out for trip to Rupp. Ashland will be a distant third with rebounding and the absence of Skaggs limiting their upside. I'm already counting Boyd County and Russell out lol.

Where did this PG transfer for Rowan come from?

Maybe Boyd, but Russell keeps getting better under Coach Kidwell. They might be a year or two away, but they will be well prepared for post season.

My Picks:

1. Elliott County

2. Ashland

3. Rowan County

:laugh:Isn't anybody else excited about 16th region basketball to start? I can't wait for tip off.:ylsuper:

I am looking forward to our game and see thier players with Rowan Co on Jan 25th. It is at GRC.

I think Rowan will suprise some people this year. By the looks of their schedule on the KHSAA site, they tried to upgrade as much as possible. I am surprised that writers of the CATS Pause did not do a better job in their summary. They totally missed the transfer of Townsend to the team. The kid averaged 19.2 points a game as a sophmore last year in the 12th region, you would think that is at least worth mentioning. Their game against Ashland is supposed to be televised on Wazoo sports. I think they expect big things over in Morehead.
