Arbitration is based on past precedence more so than what "current salaries" players are making. I agree that Morneau, Howard, and Fielder are comparable players. But you'd be better off looking at what they made in their first year of arbitration rather than their current salaries. Morneau - $4.5 Million Howard - $10 Million Fielder - $6.5 Million For further comparison Cabrera - $7.4 Million Considering those salaries I'd say that somewhere around $7 million is what I'd expect Votto to make in arbitration.

No that's not what I meant. They will have to pay 10 Mil+ a year in a long-term deal. I meant arbitration, didn't make it very clear I guess. If they are smart they just go ahead and sign him to a longterm deal in the off season. If he goes to Arbirtation he is going to get upwards of $7 Mil IMO.
