After talking to one of the Russell assistant coaches, I’m pretty sure I’ve called this one wrong. I should have known better than to vote against the Russell coaching staff.

 

I think the Russell QB has looked pretty good so far throwing the ball. I hope they have a good plan in store for the Musketeers.

 

I'm just as concerned, though, about Russell's ability to stop Greenup. Russell is a pretty young team defensively facing a senior-laden Greenup County squad. Russell's top 6 tacklers in their first game were 4 juniors and 2 sophomores. The leading tackler was a sophomore. I hope they can slow down their running attack.

True enough. Raceland was fortunate, though, that the series started back up in 2007 at the tail end of Russell's string of very good teams and with Raceland being on the upswing with one of their best classes they've ever had being juniors. Since they've started playing again, Russell won the first one and Raceland won the next 2. I look for another very good game between the 2 teams later this season. Until then, though, these 2 teams have to deal with a lot of strong opponents.

I believe that your coaches have studied the game film from last week’s Greenup game and have developed a winning strategy.

I went to East and Russell last week where I was watching from looked as though East had holes to run in just the backs looked slow hitting it.I think Greenup has faster backs and stronger backs than East and from what yardage they ran up on Ashland I think Russell will have their hands full this week.

So true!! We were lucky with the timing. But we need anything we can get to compete year in year out with these bigger schools. We have all the RESPECT in the world for all of the bigger schools we play. We I think understand it's always going to be an uphill battle. But man it's fun when we can pull one out against a Russell, Ashland or Greenup Co. Bring out the Fire trucks!! :lol:

Given the results the past few years, I believe Raceland has established the fact that they can compete with any of the local teams. Ashland, Greenup, Raceland, Russell, Boyd, Fairview, and even Ironton should all play each other every year if possible. It makes for good regular season schedules with a lot of good crowds and rivalry games.

I noticed The Independent is leaning towards Russell in a nail biter! All kidding aside (from my earlier posts in this thread), this has the makings of the best game of the week. It was stated above that the turnover battle determines this game and I'll have to agree.

Russell wins the turnover battle and wins by 6.
