August 3, 201016 yr Author I didn't really care one way or the other about Nutt...and still don't to a degree, but I do totally disagree with this decision.
August 3, 201016 yr If Masoli can stay out of trouble for the next six months, it could be a good move. Colleges hire coaches to win football games. Considering Mississippi's QB situation, Masoli probably gives them a chance to win 1 or 2 games they might not otherwise win. He is experienced and a duel threat. Neither of which Nathan Stanley is. There first real test, if you even consider Vanderbilt a test, isn't for 7 weeks so Masoli should have plenty of time to learn the offense and for the offense to get used to him. If he screws up again, they kick him off the team and they are back to where they started. Albeit, with an even more inexperienced QB than had they started Stanley from the get go.
August 3, 201016 yr Very good QB, everyone deserves a second chance. Hope he likes the South. It certainly at least makes me feel like we have a tiny chance against Bama. What with an off week the week before and 5 games to tune the offense. Certainly not very likely but at least now we may have enough of a chance I'll think about driving over.

Did you totally disagree with them being picked last in the west or do you think Masoli makes them that much better?
August 4, 201016 yr Did you totally disagree with them being picked last in the west or do you think Masoli makes them that much better? I totally disagreed. We've had as good of recruiting classes as anyone in the SEC except Bama/Florida last few years. Gene Chizick still has a terrible overall record as a head coach, Auburn has no depth at D, and no proven QB either. Arkansas still doesn't play defense, MS State still only has 1 winning season in the past decade so are they really a safe bet to beat us in Oxford? Houston Nutt is 3-2 vs. Les Miles, so LSU doesn't scare me that much. Bama only returns two starters on D, so I don't feel they are a mile from everyone. We could have finished 6th but we have as good of a front 7 on defense as any team in the country and that will take you a long way in this league.
August 4, 201016 yr HT, you and five other schools have off weeks before they play us. :idunno: Ya that is kind of crummy for Bama. In some ways though it should show you how much respect people have for Bama right now, that they all feel they need the extra week to prepare for that game. Considering Bama is our halfway point though it's a good spot date wise for us though.

I would've never put them 6th either, I was all about the West being tougher than the East this year...but you just made the West sound horrible. Lol. Now, i'm not sure what to think. I do agree that some SEC school is WAY overhyped every year - UGA two years ago, your Rebels last year...I think you are right that Arkansas could be that team this year. I haven't looked at Ole Miss' schedule, but I guess I could see them anywhere from 3rd to 6th and I think the East is even more up in the air. I suppose that is another topic all together.
August 4, 201016 yr Talent-wise I'd probably put Ole Miss 5th or 6th in the West. However, I do think Nutt is a good enough coach to get them to play much better. I'll guess 4th in the division, but I think it's the toughest division in college football this year.

CCC, you seem like just the man to start a thread for our SEC Picks, All Conference, POY's, etc....
