July 5, 201016 yr Author Interesting ... has James Carville ever had any credibility with you before?I figured he did with you. In many ways, local and state governments were crippled by the storm. It was up to the federal government to provide as much relief as possible, but it was apparent that it wasn't prepared, despite the advance warning. It was quite apparent that many of the people that lived there ignored the warning. I call it as I see it. I didn't like Bush, but I don't judge the guy based on whether I like him. I judge him based on what I see of his policies and actions, and let's face it ... Katrina wasn't the first major situation that was mishandled by the Bush administration. Iraq was clearly another.I don't disagree he mishandled things as president, I just think it's funny and disingenuous that people won't admit that Obama has mishandled things as well. It's his policies and actions I judge him on all as well, he's not doing a very good job. I'm not absolving of Obama of anything. But it's clear that he while he could have jumped in right away, he deferred to BP, believing it had the technology and ability to handle the spill. Bottom line ... I don't see that Obama could have done anything to prevent what has happened in the Gulf, given that the oil is still flowing into the ocean. As I've said, if he had gotten involved from the start, he would be harshly criticized for interfering with business and committing government resources when they may not have been needed. I dare say you would have taken that position, too. You'd be wrong, it's emergencies such as this that I expect the president to get involved in. The fact that it's still flowing doesn't just look bad on BP, it looks bad on Obama as well. I dare say you would have been all over Bush if this happened under his watch. I'm not indignant about anything. I simply asked a question. Thanks for the response. I haven't exactly been glowing about the Obama administration's handling of events, either. I guess it's just easy or convenient for you to just lump me in the pro-Obama camp. To be honest if you rarely, if ever, post your disagreements with Obama and frequently post in defense of him (as you do) it's rather difficult to not see you in the pro-Obama camp.
July 6, 201016 yr The fact that it's still flowing doesn't just look bad on BP, it looks bad on Obama as well. I dare say you would have been all over Bush if this happened under his watch. Not really ... I don't know how Bush, or Obama for that matter, would have been able to stop the ongoing spill. This one is on BP. To be honest if you rarely, if ever, post your disagreements with Obama and frequently post in defense of him (as you do) it's rather difficult to not see you in the pro-Obama camp. Most of my alleged defense of Obama isn't defending Obama himself but challenging some of the ridiculous charges and complaints about him. I'm sure you see things the way you want to.
July 7, 201016 yr Author Most of my alleged defense of Obama isn't defending Obama himself but challenging some of the ridiculous charges and complaints about him.Had to be a time or two that even you would have felt that way about Bush, yet..... I'm sure you see things the way you want to. Don't we all?
July 7, 201016 yr Had to be a time or two that even you would have felt that way about Bush, yet.....I don't remember Bush being the subject of ridiculous attacks almost on a daily basis in this forum ... if he was, please refresh my memory.
July 7, 201016 yr RTS...exactly what do you want Obama to do. I'm not looking for "he should do more", I'm looking for exactly what you think he should be doing.
July 7, 201016 yr Author I don't remember Bush being the subject of ridiculous attacks almost on a daily basis in this forum ... if he was, please refresh my memory.Yeah you're right, he was treated with the utmost reverence. Obama hasn't been the subject of ridiculous attacks, he's been questioned for his policies, lack of leadership, mistakes and all the other things ALL presidents before him has. For some odd reason, some can't handle that.
July 7, 201016 yr Author RTS...exactly what do you want Obama to do. I'm not looking for "he should do more", I'm looking for exactly what you think he should be doing.Well lets see, there are, for starters, a few things he could do. Release the S.S. A-Whale, waive the Jones Act as it was after Katrina, accept international assistance (approximately thirty countries and international organizations have offered equipment and experts so far and as of the last week the White House has finally decided to accept help from only twelve of these nations), allow sand berm dredging, halt Climate Change Legislation and focus on the oil spill (we're in a crisis here), temporarily waive EPA regulations (because more water than oil is collected - 85% to 90% is water according to Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, if the water has to be kept in the vessel and taken back to shore for purification, it vastly multiples the resources and time needed, requiring cleanup ships to make extra round trips, transporting seven times as much water as the oil they collect), stop Coast Guard budget cuts. I'm sure there is more, but these would be nice.
July 7, 201016 yr Yeah you're right, he was treated with the utmost reverence.I never said he was ... but it's fair to say in this forum, his treatment was far better than that Obama has experienced. Obama hasn't been the subject of ridiculous attacks, he's been questioned for his policies, lack of leadership, mistakes and all the other things ALL presidents before him has. For some odd reason, some can't handle that.No one minds Obama being questioned or criticized in a reasonable way. Some of it here crosses that line.
July 7, 201016 yr Author I never said he was ... but it's fair to say in this forum, his treatment was far better than that Obama has experienced.Debatable but if so, perhaps it's for good, well earned reason. No one minds Obama being questioned or criticized in a reasonable way. Some of it here crosses that line.Strictly a matter of opinion.
July 9, 201016 yr Let's not kid ourselves and act like President Bush had enough of a warning to do anything that would've made much of a difference. Neither Bush nor Obama deserve blame for their respective disasters, I don't understand why that's so dang hard for so many of you all to grasp. I cocur!
