June 20, 201016 yr Author I don't care one way or another about the vuvuzelas, I don't watch soccer, too boring for me. To call people racist for wanting it banned is absurd. How he can connect skin color and an irritating noise is beyond me. Actually I think it's because he's the racist. I agree with rockmom and mcpapa, there are other noise makers in other games every bit as annoying and we haven't seen a call for a ban on them and we have a choice to not watch or at least push the mute button.
June 20, 201016 yr I personally don't find any of it any more annoying than cow bells and air horns that people use at games here in America. I thought the same thing myself. The only difference I see is that the cow bells & air horns take a break once in a while. All three are déclassé.

Yeah, but in high school basketball, the "fans" that make derogatory comments about the kids that are playing, or their own coach even, never seem to shut up.
June 20, 201016 yr I understand what he means. He is saying that if it is part of the culture of South Africa to do this then people in this country shouldn't have a say it whether they do it or not. Didn't say I agree with him just that I understand it. How many of you ever have watched a Japanese pro baseball game? They play drums and other things during the entire game. Are we going to tell them they shouldn't do it also? I have and its awesome, and I have watched previous WC's and have enjoyed hearing how different countries chant, sing, etc. This is truly annoying to the highest degree. The WC and FIFA will take a big hit for this.
June 21, 201016 yr It's pretty ridiculous to say that this is due to race. I think its just as ridiculous to say that arrogance doesn't play a part in a call for banning them though. How mad would we get as a country if someone told us not to do something that is popular in our country if we were holding an event? Are they annoying? Of course. But its their culture...
