Ron said that when Severson was hit by the pitch that he stuck his leg out in order to get hit. The pitch was not a strike. Ron said that due to the intentional aspect of the play that the result of the play is a strike. Since there were already 2 strikes Severson was declared out.

 

It should have simply been a ball.

 

He called a nice game behind the plate.

 

I found out from COOP,who by the way is the MAN! That in a situation with a 3/2 count if the batter intentionally leans in on a pitch that the umpire deems a ball and gets hit, the call is still a ball! It is also obviously a dead ball and no base runners may advance! My only other question Coop is what happens if the bases are loaded? It seems unfair to reward the offense with a free run! It was a interesting situation! By the way were was my man Cameron Fogle at? Yes I said it and I'll say it again that young man needs to be in the outfield! IMO :ylsuper:

If it was going to be a ball anyway and therefore a walk with the bases loaded, then what is the big deal about awarding a "free" run?

Conner runner was picked off first by the CovCath catcher and tries to jump over the first baseman tag. Of course in HS you aren't allowed to do that and the men in Blue got it right.

 

At the St. Henry vs. CovCath Frosh game the St. Henry second baseman while taking a relay throw from the right fielder, throws the ball over the fence along the third base line but the ball hits the trap/tent top that covers an area outside the fence and bounces back into the field and the umpire call the play like it hit the fence and doesn't call it out of bounds. Strange night of calls, you rarely see happen in a game.

The runner was out on the tag. The umpires then educated him that he would have been out anyway for the jump.

Not quite sure I would say that. What I would say is Conner hit like I know they can hit and pounced all over the starting CovCath pitcher, as hey hit him like it was batting practice. Funny how one night the pitcher can make you look silly at the plate, then the next night, you can look like you own the same pitcher. Shumate in fact had a rather good night holding Conner to 2 runs on 5 hits.

 

BTW this is the second time this season Austin Pugh has had a two Home Run game vs. CovCath. He did it against Warning in a 8-6 (8 inning) lose and again tonight vs Brueggman and Shumate in their 6-3 victory.

 

Pugh indeed is a hitting machine and hopefully some college coach will see what you and I see in him.
