Pugh with 2 bombs. His second was one of the highest and longest I've seen. He was impressive and even picked a runner off of first. I think he ended up with 3 hits and at least 3 RBIs.

Nope Freshmen game under the lights vs St. Henry @ St. Henry. Game didn't start until around 7:30pm. CovCath Frosh won 8-2.

Have to agree with Clyde, Pugh two HR's were no doubters and the first was with one man on, while the other was with no men on. Game was over in the first as Conner had six straight hits and scored 4 runs all earned. As good as David Brueggman was a week ago against this same Conner team, they hit him like they owned him tonight. Adam Schumate came in a did a nice job of keep the game within reach as Adam pitched a complete 6 2/3 innings of two run 5 hit baseball the rest of the way.

 

The Good: Adam Schumate kept the Colonels in the game by holding the Cougars to just two more runs in his 6 2/3 innings of pitching.

 

The Bad and The Ugly: Base running and LOB. CovCath again took themselves out of innings by poor base running and not putting any hits together. Today CovCath left 10 men on base, you just can't continue to do this and except to win games.

Conner top of the first. Delph hits the first pitch hard and earns himself a single. Man on first no outs. Roberts again on the first pitch hits a rope also for a single, men on first and second, no outs. West on a 0-2 count hits a single and drives in Delph for the first Conner run, but Roberts get himslef thrown out at 3rd on a nice 8-3-5 put out. One out, one run in and man on second. Pugh up to bat and with the count 1-0 hits a rocket over the 380 mark (and it was still going up as it went over it) for a two run HR to make the score 3-0. No one on and still only one out and Gill hits a rope for a double and then Ryle knocks in Gill with a base hit to make the score now 4-0 with only one out. Coach Krumps comes in to take Brueggman out and brings in Shumate who walks Liechty but gets Hart to go 1-4 for the second out. Russell gets on via a Catcher interference but then Shumate gets Deph to go U-8 to end the inning.

BAWAC Inc. Defensive play of the game: NOthing really outstanding tonight. CovCath had only one error a E-1 on a pick off try in the first, while Conner also had an error tonight.

 

Grubers Grill star of the game: Easy pick tonight Austin Pugh of Conner. Two huge HR 3 rbi's a K and a single. Happy for you Austin, great game and you too Dad.

 

BTW I will let someone else bring up the HBP strikeout of Severson in the second inning. While it could have been a factor in the game (it really wasn't), even the Conner fans were puzzled by the call by Ron A!

Ron said that when Severson was hit by the pitch that he stuck his leg out in order to get hit. The pitch was not a strike. Ron said that due to the intentional aspect of the play that the result of the play is a strike. Since there were already 2 strikes Severson was declared out.

 

It should have simply been a ball.

 

He called a nice game behind the plate.
