Quickslick can speak for himself, but this was not a regular meet where individual events are contested. This is an all relay meet.

 

Cov. Cath. may very well have the best team in NKY, but I don't think you can draw that conclusion from last nights meet.

I think that a regular meet would not be a huge run away like it was last night. Cov Cath's depth definitely helped with the relay format. I still think that Campbell County will be tough to beat ... and I also think that Cov Cath is pretty freaking good. Head to head .. I think it would be pretty even (which is a change from before).

 

The last thing I will say is this .... the conference meet is not a good indication of what would happen head to head but it does show who has good depth and a deep talent pool.

 

I think that the Area 5 Championships will be a little more realistic look at head to head compeition (with other great runners from NKY). Both teams have a nearly identical number of eligible athletes at this time.

Cov Cath is pretty freaking good--and as good as they have been.

 

If they bring the same kind of effort to the rest of the season ... they will be tough to beat. Real tough.

 

Good job to the Colonels.

 

I still agree that it will be a real challenge to beat Central again at State for the boys at Cov Cath. Seems like they too have been having a good year.

I agree with cincy.. and I also believe that Cov Cath will not be attending the Area 5 meet for they will be challenging themselves across the river and in louisville in the same week (according to the schedule). This season will come down to the state champioship where I think CCH will out-shine all NKY teams and most teams throughout the state, if not all (2A)

I hope you are right! Last years state 2A state meet was very exciting with the boys winning (and the highlands girls) - - would love to see a repeat on the boys side. But - remember fella's that Central is going to want this even more this year so when we get there, we are going to have to step up our game even more!!

You know ... we could probably set up a virtual meet via kytrackxc ... I am sure that would be pretty interesting.

 

Cov Cath vs. Central may be the best match up at the state championships (all classes) this year. Not to mention .. I am sure that Paducah Tilghman may have something to say about both teams getting the jump on them the last few years. It should be a lot of fun to watch.

I do not agree with this statement. Cov Cath is only better than Campbell, outright, in a few events: shot, 300 H, High Jump. Running a normal meet with two comp for each event, the score would actually be closer. IMO

CCH's top 5 100 runners beat all of Campbell's with the exception of Neyman. CCH also has 2 110 hurdlers better than any of CCHS's. Cov Cath has a better time in the 4x100 as well as the shuttle hurds, the 4x200, the 4x1600, 2 athletes ahead of Campbell in the long jump, and would win triple jump.

The 2 mile Rawe would get CC some points. So in a regular meet i'd say CCHS would have the advantage. (See Donnie Carnes)

I understand that Campbell may get some points as well, and please continue to use the Donnie Carnes as the 'mark'. Most of Cov Cath's upper classman were out for spring break for that meet. They had a lot of Freshmen run for that one if I do recall.

You should make your points based on sprints/jumps ... because Cov Cath has NO ONE who could compete with Sharold in the 400/800/1600 (and even the 3200 if he decided to run it). Cov Cath has no one who could match up with Bernard in the 1600 or 800.

Lets get something straight ... they are not my Camels.... I dislike them as much as I dislike the arrogant Colonels.

But the truth of the matter here is that the typical Cov Cath attitude is starting to come out.

Not to mention another excuse pointing to where Cov Cath didn't run or jump their strongest ... well ... we hear that week after week and it is starting to seem like an excuse to everyone other than Cov Cath people.

Cov Cath had a chance to go head to head with Campbell County and most of the other good schools in the area at the Area 5 Meet ... Cov Cath avoided it like the plague. I don't want to hear any whining about Cov Cath going anywhere else ... because every good team in NKY ran either the day before the meet ... or on Saturday (like Cov Cath) or ... Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

That doesn't even speak to the fact that Cov Cath had a very small number of qualifiers to begin with. (Not enough to compete for the win).

I don't want to hear any excuses about it not being on the schedule for Cov Cath .. because it wasn't on the schedule for anyone.

AND ... I know for a fact why Cov Cath avoided it.

 

So ... keep talking about how great Cov Cath is ... and how much better they are over Campbell.

Everyone (except Cov Cath people) sees the situation for what it is .... avoidance ......

I do agree that the depth of quality distance guys is an area where they do need to improve. I do think we will see a better showing as these guys are a year older. You mention Central gaining some guys, in this area, but I think where Central needs to gain is depth (they did not run in many relays at state last year), and I also would need to go back and look, but I think they scored very few points in the field events. So, I do like the blue Colonels chances this year, both in NKy and at State. Who knows, we have a long season still ahead of us. Good luck to all the guys from all the schools. And for the record ... this is the one post where you directly speak to Cov Cath vs Central .... and I am pretty sure that you say nothing about Cov Cath being the underdog here. Matter of fact .. it says "So, I do like the blue Colonels chances this year, ..."

 

The funny part is .... if you count up the points yesterday .... Central scored a whole lot of points in FIELD EVENTS.

 

After yesterday ... Cov Cath has an uphill climb.
