Interesting that the same rules for qualification as a "hit" don't apply for some CCH hitters. .

This brings back fond memories of a former Ryle baseball poster.

Interesting that the same rules for qualification as a "hit" don't apply for some CCH hitters. If you didn't see an error by Ryle's 3Bman yesterday, you were sleeping. And if you think Hensley's ball was an error rather than a triple, wow. Same for Clarkson's hit down the line. Every time a bunt is laid down, it isn't an automatic hit. You don't judge error/hit based on whether a past fielder for a certain team might have made the play. It's whether the play was reasonable to make. Period. But score it any way you want if it helps CCH's batting averages and pitching stats.

Defention: In baseball statistics, an error is the act, in the judgment of the official scorer, of a fielder misplaying a ball in a manner that allows a batter or base runner to reach one or more additional bases, when such an advance should have been prevented given ordinary effort by the fielder.

I believe in playing the game as it should be played. If the ball is hit at you at this level, you should catch it, I don't buy, it was hit too hard!

Now his first at bat it was hit right at the CovCath first basemen and indeed it was off the end of the bat so it had a lot of spin on it but if the first basemen gets down and in front of the ball, it's not that hard of a play to make. Call it a hit, but the people around me, called it an error as I did.

His second at bat was hit to the SS and if you call that a hit, well.....:idunno:

Routine play at best.....Again IMO and again those around me, agreed error.

The third at bat was the hardest call to make, as indeed the ball was hit very hard at the CovCath third baseman but he did get his glove on the ball and I can tell you that both Popham and Darner would have made the play.

Again, I could see the third at bat being a hit, but the first two, not IMO.

Remember these young men are suppose to be playing on a team, that a lot of people think is a top five team in all of the Ninth Region, so I believe they should be making the plays in question.

Again all of this is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less!

TOG, you know I have tons of respect for your baseball knowledge, but I seem to remember a Ryle vs Cov Cath game early last season where you called a hit for one of your players that was hit hard but directly at a Ryle fielder? :idunno:

Feel free to post your impressions on how the game should be scored. Please do not knock TOG, as he puts a ton of time and effort into going to these games, scoring them and then posting about them on BGP. He is a self described homer for CovCath. He is also a HUGE fan of the game. He is more than fair with both teams when describing a game.

If you do not like the way he sees it, then buy a book, go to the games, keep score, then go home and post about it on BGP. ..........That is what I thought.:walk:

Wow, since he puts a ton of time and effort in, everyone should give him a free pass when they disagree with something he posts or how he scores a game. I guess we should just accept it as fact, as well.

Someone pointed out a contradiction into his scoring of a play in a game based solely on his being a homer for CCH. When TOG posts the information he is presenting it as fact. All the poster is asking, if you are presenting the information as fact, be consistent and not a homer. Do not have separate standards from one team to another or one year to another.

If you are going to apply different standards be prepared to be questioned about it.

Very nicely put. :thumb:

So I am guess I will see something about the Ryle Conner game today, more than just the score out of you Clint and DD?

Again please, come up to me at today game and I will be glad to give you a pencil and a score sheet so you can post the information about the game on BGP's sometime after the game.

It would be nice to see someone from Ryle posting information about the games being played, with stats and such. Just have never seen it done in the close to five years on BGP's.

BTW thanks PB....:thumb:

Nope not me! It will never happen!

If I would have seen this post earlier today I would have come up to see you though!

I was just simply pointing out that just because something is posted by you or anyone else on here should not necessarily be accepted as fact. This is after all a message board for people to post opinions. Also, if you have a problem with what I posted PM me.

TOG

It will be curious to see how you score the"hit" to left field, in the 7th that scored 2 CCH runs vs. Conner today.

I wasn't able to make this one so I couldn't post any comments on this particular game.

TOG, what about Cooperstown? He is one of the top posters on this site and he is a Ryle fan. He may not give blow by blow stats, but he has tremendous baseball knowledge and he gives what I feel is unbiased comments on each and every game. As I said before I have a great amount of respect for your baseball knowledge and share your love of high school baseball, but we are both homers and need to keep that in perspective.

What player? Maile's hit at Ryle last year? Lots of games between Ryle and CovCath last year!

BTW couldn't believe how many CovCath fans a couple of parents from the Conner team and two Ryle fans who came up to me this AM to tell me thanks for posting what I do and to keep doing it!

Have all the respect in the World for Coop and he knows that!

I can tell you DD that today, I had some very knowledgeable baseball people come up to me, to tell me they felt my calls were correct.

Who? Think HS coaches and not from CovCath, and some pretty good youth coaches also. Quite frankly it made me feel rather good about my calls. You would be surprised who is on BGP's, I know I was today!

Why won't you score a game?

It's fun and a great way to keep your team fans abreast of the games that they can't attend. Can't tell you the number of times I have been thanked by CovCath and other teams fan for letting them know what want on in the games!

BTW with a 35/40 MPH wind blowing out today (you will agree it was rather windy), I wouldn't give any outfield a error. Huge, huge, difference with the wind today, heck I was impressed when any outfielder caught a ball today. It was brutal for them this AM!

To those who know me they will know the following statement is true.

I forgot more baseball than I ever wanted to know!!!

The wind did make it interesting, to say the least.

Siemer...first time they played at Cov Cath last year. You know I have never said I don't like all the information you contribute on BGP!
