Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino-much older than the age range I'm referencing, so throw them out.

 

I think all the others are great, but I disagree that any are better than Penn.

 

Denzel Washington in particular. Whenever I see a movie with him in it, it's like watching Denzel Washington as himself. He's one of those actors that I don't get the impression that he IS the character. Not to say I don't enjoy the movies he's in. I usually do. But, I don't feel he's really "feeling" his character.

 

I can somewhat agree about Denzel, but a lot of his earlier movies were different IMO....Philadelphia in particular. (which adds another to my list in Tom Hanks)

 

If I had to narrow my list down, I'd go with Leo (my favorite actor right now), Daniel Day-Lewis, & Christian Bale as the best 3 in Hollywood right now.

I put Johnny Depp #2 on my list of actors in my generation.

 

Brad Pitt is probably #5, behind Leonardo DiCaprio.

 

I don't really even have Christian Bale on my list.

How could you leave out "Bad Boys?" (No, not the one with the Fresh Prince in it.) He gets a win if for no other reason than the pillowcase scene.

He got so into his character in The Machinist, that they threatened to halt production if he didn't stop losing weight.

 

Turnaround only 2-3 months, and he was Batman. The dedication to his roles is phenominal.
