The biggest problem is the lady who runs the fields for Campbell CTY schools.

She has made poor decisions concerning all fields. The money she has wasted on grass, sod, rubber tire(twice), grass and sod again and then Bermuda grass, would have paid for turf. They have redone the track also in the last 8 years. It is not in any better shape. And now the field still looks worse then when she started.

I would love to see how much money it has taken to do all of this and still pay people to water the grass, cut and apply chemicals and then it still needs to be stripped every week.

Management has never been a strong suit for the Board of Ed of Campbell Cty.

Nobody does it like Highlands. They let everybody use there field. Soccer, T-ball, coach pitch. Youth football. That includes practice. No one is denied use. The lady who runs Highlands field says yes to every child that needs a place to play.That is why Highlands is successful in everything they do.

 

Pretty sure they had their chance to go to turf a few years ago with a large outside contribution (NFL) very possible, but they needed to commit to allowing it to be a community field (ie: potentially allow other area teams and sports to use the field)? As usual, the short sightedness of the "leadership" killed any idea of that plan, so they're left with a true desert (at least until it rains)?

Pretty sure they had their chance to go to turf a few years ago with a large outside contribution (NFL) very possible, but they needed to commit to allowing it to be a community field (ie: potentially allow other area teams and sports to use the field)? I don't recall any turf contribution in the past ten years. Their was a push to allow Brossart to use the field, but no mention of turf that I'm aware of. The grass field would not support two high school programs along with middle school football and CCYFL. I know they would like to have turf.

I don't recall anything of the sort. The Camel's only NFL alumn that I'm aware of retired 50 years or more ago. Who or why would this come from the NFL or someone close to it?

I heard rumors of this deal. The NFL has a foundation that will contribute large dollars to a "sponsored" school provided that the school has a former NFL player associated with it. I think there may have been a proposal to get a former NFL player as a representative of the BBHS program (the former player went to St. Joe Camp Springs grade school and later attended NCC) and collaborate with CCHS to put together a community field.

The NFL also has grants available for teams that are a certain distance from an NFL franchise. We looked into it once but was over the distance that allows you to apply. That might have been where it was coming from.

A community involvement program by the NFL in franchise areas--Was killed due to a lack of cooperation on one side of the equation from what I'd heard, as the several other entities involved were in line? Great "community" leadership??
