I read the article... not exactly a fair and balanced POV IMO...

I'm surprised they didn't color Bunning red and add horns... :D

I don't get into day-to-day committees and their rules so can someone explain how one Senator can hold this up?

He is holding up the stop gap proposal and good for him in doing so, which was an add on to a completely unrelated bill. He can not hold up the main bill, which will pass later this week. There is some argument about how to fund it, but it will go through. This is much ado about nothing and is just rhetoric from the left. Avatar wager ace that nobody goes without their unemployment check?

Any senator can place a "hold" on essentially anything going through the legislative process. As with a filibuster, or threat of filibuster, 60 votes are needed to go around it if they refuse to release the hold.

200000 transportation employees were furloughed TODAY. That is not rhetoric. I saw the furloughs on the news this morning, just did not realize it was a result of Bunning's hold.

Now if they can just figure out how to furlough another couple million bureaucrats we might start trimming this monster down to size.

FWIW, I don't think any of those folks will lose a nickel by the time it's all said and done. Bunning is only holding Dems to the letter of the law AND their promises.

Get your facts straight...

It is 2000, and they will all be paid retroactively, as soon as both sides agree on the funding method, which will probably happen by week end. This is the problem you have. You want the world, but seem to forget that you have to pay for it... He is holding the democrats to their own standard of pay as you go. If it is not rhetoric as I say it is, then put your money where your mouth is and wager your avatar on it? I will sport an Obama avatar for a week if I am wrong and these people go without retroactive pay when the funding is agreed to. Are you willing to sport a George W. Bush avatar for a week if I am right...

And I'll be willing to bet that when this spending bill does go through those that are furloughed today will be paid in full.

I thought that BHO signed a Pay as you Go bill earlier. Why isn't this bill included in that?

FWIW on a local radio show this AM I listened to a "hard worker" on unemployment say that he wouldn't even start looking for a job as long as he has benefits and if they pass this extension he will not look for a job until that extension passes and hope for another.

Left wingers trying to villianize the right. Rhetoric and much ado about nothing. Bunning just put a hold on it because the money has to come from somewhere and he was just wanting to know where. I am glad he did it.

Technically, he knows where it would come from.

He simply doesn't like that avenue.

Really? He supported the unemployment extension last year. It wasn't paid for then either.

He is also holding bills up to see about the cut, or elimination of the cut, of the estate tax from the Bush era. The elimination effects 2% of the estates. If the cut is allowed to expire, there is the money to pay for it. However, Bunning wants to continue to reduce revenues.

Just like I suspected ace...

I admire standing in principle.

I'd admire Bunning if he did this knowing he had to run for re-election. No ramifications get no praise from me.
