Boone County 57 St Henry 41

Interesting match-up last night with Boone County playing St Henry at Boone. The game featured 2 of the best post players in the 9th region with Moss (Boone/Soph.) and Janszen (St. Henry/Junior). It looked to me as though Moss was flustered on both ends of the floor, not used to seeing someone with the size, quickness, and athleticism of Janszen. St. Henry gave Boone all they could handle for 3 and 1/2 quarters, St Henry trailing by 6 points with less than 3 minutes in the game. Final score did not indicate the competitiveness of the game, thanks in big part to Janszen holding Moss to 10 points & 7 rebounds. Janszen finished with 12 points & 7 rebounds. If St Henry plays to their potential, they could surprise someone come tournament time.

I seem to remember when the current coach was hired that there were concerns about him only having middle school coaching experience. Is it safe to assume those fears have gone away?

Not taking anything away from Janszen at all, I don't think that she had a lot to do with Moss only scoring 10 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. IMO Janszen is an amazing athlete and I don't want this to be taken the wrong way. Moss had many chances to score, just couldn't find the net. There was one possession when she had atleast 4 rebounds right under the basket but still couldn't manage to score. Just a bad game, thats all. Every player has more then one. Moss has had double doubles for more then half the games, truth is that if these were numbers for an average player, it would be a solid game for them. If you read the article in the enquire, Fookes made it clear that Moss is only human and cannot score 30 points every game with 4 or 5 people hanging on her. I agree, and I applaud Coach Fookes on saying that.

As to the game, it was a very close one and St. Henry worked very hard to stay with the Rebels most of the way, great job and effort by every one of them. It was a great game and the Rebels pulled out another victory.

Didn't see "4 or 5 people hanging on her", just good old fashioned "man to man" defense. Don't know how you can say "don't think that she had a lot to do with Moss only scoring 10 points and grabbing 7 rebounds". Agree that Moss didn't have one of her better games, and her early foul trouble certainly contributed to her lack of production. Bottom line was Janszen did what most teams have been unable to do with double and triple teams on her. Moss is a great player with unlimited potential, just think Janszen get's over looked in the 9th region.

Why?

Janszen is a very good player and I don't really think people are over-looking her. There was a discussion within the past week or so talking about how she is such an incredible athlete...perhaps the "team" is getting over-looked...which is always dangerous.

It sounded as if Moss sat a lot...if she picked up a 2nd foul in the 1st half I know she sat until the 3rd qtr...it also sounded as though she didn't play with much desire...which I'm sure got her an earful during a teachable moment.

Good luck the rest of the way.

St. Henry (16-7) - Janszen 5 2 12, O'Daniel 3 1 8, Hoff 3 1 7, McArtor 2 0 5, Knaley 2 0 5, Gamm 2 0 4. Totals 17 4 41.

Boone County (19-3) - Shrout 4 5 15, Browning 4 2 12, Moss 5 0 10, Sellers 1 4 7, Nash 2 2 6, Davis 2 0 4, Sandlin 0 3 3. Totals 18 16 57.

St. Henry 5 12 9 15 - 41

Boone County 4 15 13 25 - 57

3-pointers: S 3 (O'Daniel, McArtor). B 5 (Shrout 2, Browning 2, Sellers).

A 16 point win is pretty solid. Must have been an ugly first quarter for both teams.

St Henry opened the game making 2 of 10 from the line (ugh) and it didn't get much better from there. Don't let the final margin fool you, the game was much closer than the final score. Boone did an excellant job from the line, don't have stats but would guess they shot 80-90% on the night.

Parity is a good thing if you are a fan like me. I am really looking forward to the Regions.

Boone County shot 16-21 (76.2%) from the free throw line which is very good................HOWEVER they started the game making just ONE of their first EIGHTEEN shots from the floor. That is horrible and how they led, even by two, at the half with that start is amazing.

Moss sat out a bunch, some from foul trouble and some from those "teachable moment(s)" you mentioned! She played but a total of 17 minutes in the game so I'd say that had a lot to do with her totals for the game.

you actually know the number of minutes each player is in the game ? do you keep track of minutes and seconds ?

Saint Henry made a total of 4 points at the line, compared to 16 for Boone. How they kept the game close thru 3 quarters is amazing.

I don't have to. Boone County's statistician does that (maybe the only stat person who does) and I can check it at the Boone County Girls BB page on the Cincinnati Enquirer site.
