Why is it?

Parents definately can't take it from other kids that are the same age as their kids. And I have seen parents call these kids out. Not sure that is the grown up thing to do.:sssh:

Why GatorFan, did someone say something to you?

Sorry couldn't resist

:lol::lol::lol:

I'll add more fuel to the fire on this. What makes the person right that was handing out the "constructive criticism"?

I have heard more bashing from certain parents, and then BAM you say something about theirs and they get upset. I am an honest person, if you ask me something I wil tell you and if it isn't the answer you wanted to hear then don't ask.

If a coach wants parents to be parents then the coach should not talk about coaching issues with parents. If a coach wants a father to sit in the stands and cheer, then the coach should not seek his opinions on basketball.
Well said, my friend!

SO what your saying is someone asked your opinion...you gave it. They didn't like it?

As the rule goes, I won't offer an opinion unless asked. If you ask, be ready for what comes. Of course, my kown kids and the kids I teach are another story.

I had a coach ask me why his player couldn't hit free throws. I told him it was because he was shoting left handed, but had his right foot farther forward. Now that is a fairly benign resopnse, but coach went nuts thinking that I told him he didn't know how to teach shooting. You get what you ask for!!!

I agree with you alwayswrong. Be careful for what you ask for. I tend to tell the brutal truth. There is only one person I have to keep happy and that's my wife. Everyone else is subject to hearing whatever jumps into my brain.

Only one way to deal with unsolicited constructive criticism. Unless you have asked for it you probably won't use it in the way it was intended.

The parents can't take it a lot of times, but usually the kids can. I have certain parents who do not want to hear the bad things, only the good. Others ask and take it constructively. We often swap out and I give the criticism to their kid and vise versa-since lord knows we are stupid in our kids minds!

Are we talking about things said directly to a parent or things said on a message board?

I think that common sense should govern comments on a message board. It's easy to hid behind a made up name and say negative things about kids. I'd say that if someone really has something to say about a kid, find that child's parents in the stands after the game and ask them about it

there, rather than airing the issue on a message board.

On a message board, everyone knows who I am and I am fine with that. But when they sit in the stands and make phone calls and bash other players, and then you say something and they get mad, come on!

Well, no parent wants to hear anything bad about their child. No matter who it comes from, that is why no parent can take constructed criticism. I am sure you wouldn't be able to take it either redcrossave.:idunno:

I have never said one thing about a kid on this or any other forum and as I have said repeatedly if it was my kid getting bashed on here I would have a problem with it as would any normal parent.

Hilarious

I never said you said something bad about a kid on this forum, I am just talking about the whole picture. I think I would have a problem with someone bashing my kid on a forum. If so then you must look at who the person is bashing a kid on a forum such as this.

If you are on Bluegrasspreps then there is a good chance you have no clue what you are talking about, so why would that bother you? however there are people on this site that know a great deal about the game, teaching kids, and life in general so that could be positive. I am sure this kind of person would not bash a kid even if they were hiding behind a fake name. But I understand that is does or would bother you-I have no problem with that. Because I am probably right there with you.

Keep in mind any kid that is good enough to have people talk about them either in a positive or negative manner on BGP must have accomplished a lot throughout their school career to deserve the conversation. They should take credit for all of the good they have done. I'm guessing 90% of all kids that play hoops will not even have their name mentioned.

:thumb: You are right, not too many different names mentioned on BGP. And that is a great way to look at it. Everyone on BGP needs to see this. I think it would cool down a lot of the hostility on here.
