Good win for the Rebels to move to 3-0 in district play.:thumb:

Keep it up, boys. :thumb:

Big win for BC, they dominated the last three quarters. LC played with little effort, and had answer for BC's defense. No offensive rebounding for LC, didn't even make an effort to rebound.

The Rebs have the upper hand in the 45th now.

Getting the #1 seed in the 45th is huge this season. Boyle, Danville, and Lincoln all appear to be relatively equal and each could knock off the other in the first round. Being #1 means a likely game with a very young and inexperienced Garrard team.

Exactly.

I really thought BC and LC would be a good game. Judging how they both played against the Ads and Golden Lions. But tonight was all BC. This district and region is down about as bad as I can ever remember.:idunno:

The 45th District seems to maybe be a year away. Lincoln is inexperienced, Boyle is improving every night, and Garrard just has no one who has played any in their life! Even Danville should still be pretty good next year.

As for the region, the 12th in basketball has died a slow, painful death over the last 20 years at the hand of quality football. I'm not sure if it will ever be back.

I agree on the district being young. Everyone in it will improve. A lot of young players playing.

I am glad we are seizing the day while the district is down. I hope we continue to take advantage of all these weak teams we seem to be beating.

Actually, Boyle was winning the district when the region was at its best. BC, aside from last year, is always a contender. I assume from the sarcasm in your statement that you don't think the 12th region/district is down?

I wouldn't say we are any more down than anyone else in the state. West and McCreary returned most of their teams intact, Mercer is a contender along with Wayne and after those four you still have 2-3 teams capable of winning the region as well. I think there is a fair amount of parity. I guess I like to use the word parity as opposed to saying the region/district is down. When I see different scores from around the state from teams that 12th region teams have beaten, I don't think we are down, I think we are more competitive and each team in the 12th has to bring their best effort against at least half of the teams in the 12th region or you will get beat.

I have to agree. I do think there are a fair share of bad teams in the 12th this season, maybe more than usual. But I also think that most teams can beat anyone else in the region.

Add to that, some of the upper echelon teams in the 12th have posted good wins for the region.

While I have never thought about the 12th region being a basektball jugernaught I do agree over the last 20 years it has gotten worse. It is dominated by schools who have more of a football tradition, but I believe that two other scenarios have hurt it the most.

The opening of a third school in Pulaski Co (Southwest), and the split and removal of North/South Laurel. Those schools set the standard for a long time.

It might not have been a juggernaut, but Laurel County (1982) and Pulaski County (1986) each won state titles in the 1980s and Wayne County lost in the championship game by two to PRP in 1989.

I agree with you that the death knell probably came with the opening of Southwestern and the moving of the Laurels. Pulaski County High has just never been quite the same since the split (only six regional appearances since 1996) and Southwestern has never seemed to be "good enough" to get over the hump.

Losing the Laurels, and to a lesser extent Russell County, did hurt the region overall. East and West Jessamine coming in brought some good basketball, but absolutely no tradition or rivalry for anyone.

One final point on the region suffering has been the decline of small schools. In the 1980s, Danville, Harrodsburg, Somerset and Monticello were all regular regional contenders. Now Harrodsburg is closed and Monticello is irrelevant on the region-wide scene. Danville is up a little, but outside of a couple nice teams in the early 00s, they've not been much of a threat. And even Somerset, with all of their success at the All "A" level has really been nothing but an also-ran for the last couple decades.

All of this to say that while football has improvement drastically in the area since 1990, basketball has been fading for several years.
