Cov Cath/Beechwood Predictions

Featured Replies

I think Cov. Cath. will win but do not think it will be a cake walk. Coach Schumate is a very good coach and Cov. Cath. has some chinks in the armor. Cov. Cath. by 5 - 8 pts. A special shout out to Coach Schumate's performance in last year's regular season game against Cov. Cath. He looked like he had bubonic plague but stayed on the bench all the way to the end to coach the Tigers to a hard fought close victory in a District seeding game. (Nobody wants the #4 seed that requires a victory over Holmes to qualify for the Regionals.)

No doubt about that but this game probably will not impact the #4 seed even for the loser. That seed will probably be decided when Holy Cross and Beechwood play each other, with the loser of that one being the #4 seed and getting Holmes in the district opener.

I hope you are right but that assumes a Cov. Cath. victory over Holy Cross in Latonia. Holy Cross is having a down year but they always play Cov. Cath. tough in the Finn.

Cov CAth should win this one with their sheer size in the paint. If the Beechwood guards get hot from outside though they may keep it close.

CovCath 58

Beech 44

Last year's Beechwood team was better last year as they have not replaced Romes, Buettal and Snyder. CovCath is much better this year with Thelen and the guard play. There were two great games between CovCath and Beechwood last year. I expect this game to be a huge CovCath win. You think a rematch with the team that knocked CovCath out of post season play without a region appearance will come into play a little bit. And the game at CovCath on a Friday night with the crazies showing up in rare form. This could get ugly.

I bow at the alter of the Cov. Cath. internet masters :notworthy: but the Colonels are 0-4 at home this year.

And very, very over due. If CovCath loses this game, I will wear a Holmes State Champs t-shirt at The Fieldhouse Tuesday night.

I'm picking the Colonels too, just with a bit less enthusiam. I might be arm twisted into wearing a Holmes shirt but I'm not wearing anything with a "Bird" on it.

:D

No doubt Beechwood was much, much better last year. That was probably Beechwood's best team ever. Is CCH that much better this year than last year? Definitely better in the middle with Thelen but I am not sure about the guard play, especially when you consider the shooting ability of Maile. I agree CCH is better but I am not sure how much better. Regardless, as I said earlier, this is a very bad matchup for Beechwood so you may be right about it possibly getting a little lopsided.

I'd like to see the tigers pulll it out. I think CCH takes the Frosh and definately the JV. I'll take Beechwood by slim for the Varsity.

I predict that the starting point guard for the Beechwood Frosh will look strikingly similar to the starting point guard for the Beechwood Varsity!

Not unless something different happens. The starting PG for varsity hasn't been playing freshman ball.

They play tough, but when was the last time Holy Cross beat Covington Catholic? It's been almost 10 years hasn't it?

I guess I don't consider the 3 man a guard. Trust me, this team is much better than last year. We had this year's Highlands' within 3 after 2 qtrs and within 6 after 3 qtrs. Last year we were blown out twice.

I trust you. :thumb:

Both teams last year could score better than the teams this season. Thelen and Pohlgeers will have to carry the load for their teams. I think the key factors for Beechwood are Cruse containing Thelen(only letting him have 10 to 12), controlling the defensive glass, and the young Tigers not being overwhelmed by the crowd.
