Covcath/Ryle Predictions (12/10)

Featured Replies

Alex, when you decide to come out and watch CCH play this year I'll make sure to introduce you to the big horse Jake Thelen.

Looking forward to the rebounding stats, Clyde.

So now we're talking about stats? I thought you said no other player could "bang with Ryle under the basket." Thelen is 6'5 and I'd guess 220 pounds.

Ok in a close one Cov Cath 59-56, seen Cov Cath play and they will be up for this game tonight. But then again and yes I will say it again if Cov. Cath does not make their free throws the whole game and with this game being a very physical game they will not win this.

Sorry Colonels, Ryle should roll in this one......

I had forgotten that this is a boy/girls DH so no JV game. I assume girls start at 6:00.

NDA is not playing, so who are the Ryle girls playing?

Will the crowd stick around?

I incorrectly assumed NDA but its Holmes. Ryle will win by 40+. Crowd will not be a problem.

Ryle by 9.

I appear to be lost... can someone please point me in the direction of the football forum?

Typical Highlands fan. Once football is over they are simply lost.

Size alone doesn't equate to being a "banger" in basketball. Maybe I'm old school, but I always heard the term "bang" under the basket used to describe tough, physical play. Again, maybe I'm old school, but that style of play usually shows up in the rebounding stats, since there are no stats for tough, physical defense (other than maybe fouls). When I think of the term "Banger", I think of those types of players that when I was a kid were memoralized in Holy Cross gym's "Board of Control". Some of those guys were undersized, but always tough, aggressive rebounders and defensive players - we called them "bangers".

Some guys rebound because they jump well or they are smart about where the ball is going. Some guys are considered good defenders down low if they block shots. On the other hand there are players that use their body to gain position and they use their body to knock offensive players off the block. The second group is what I consider "bangers" and its why you just can't look at stats. Thelen is a banger. He's not going to outjump people. He's going to use his girth/thickness to his advantage.

Pittman gets a lot of rebounds. He's not a banger. Ryle has a kid (not sure of his name - not Stauffer) who is a shorter version of Thelen - a banger. I'd argue that Wellbrock is less of a banger than Thelen.

Over the summer, if I remember correctly, Thelan and Stauffer went head to head in an AAU tournament. I am pretty sure Stauffer won that battle rather decively.

You guys are misunderstanding my point. He said CCH had only one banger and it was Wellbrock. He's wrong.

Who's better? Don't care. I'm a fan of both.

You may be thinking of Zach Perkins?
