Just wanted to add another illustration of the disfunction this year between the football staff and administration.

 

Manual's first game was vs Highlands. QB Wooldridge started the first series, after that Woodmore played the entire game at QB.

After the game Qb Wooldridge talked to Coach Nichols and the QB Coach about his playing time and set up a meeting the next day to discuss it. They talked the next day, Nichols brought up "the elephant in the room". That night an irate Mrs. Wooldridge set up another meeting with Nichols for Monday after school.

Many of you may remember the accident on Fern Valley Rd, where the car on a test drive was going over 100 mph. That accident took the lives of a Manual player's mother and grandfather. That accident was the Sunday after the Highlands game.

After school on Monday did the administration try to help Nichols and the staff deal with that blow to a team member? No instead Mrs. Wooldridge didn't bother to reschedule and berated Nichols for his "un-professionalism".

 

This was the type of support Joe had this season from our administration.

 

Fortunately he did have a loyal staff, a great group of players and parents, and some great alumni as well.

Good luck to the Crimson's next year. I stated on here very early in the season they were to be commended for their ambitious schedule and efforts to strive to improve.:thumb:

Thank you, the Manual team should be good next year but I doubt I will be a part of it.

I don't know how many of the current staff would return if asked by whomever the new coach is. A few have or will have children in the program, two are teachers at Manual, one of them a former HC at Manual, the other a Manual grad returned to coach and teach there. I couldn't fault any of them for staying, and I would have liked the opportunity to continue with Nichols at Manual.

However, I and many others on staff are very good friends with Joe Nichols.

I work for Joe's dad and know many members of his extended family. I couldn't look my boss in the eye if I continued to work with an administration that has treated his son this way.

Pete, as you well know, I have been rather hard on Nichols and some of the supposed short comings he had, however, after reading the goings on in this thread....I am shocked...what do people expect...it is crazy hard to lead a group of young men, particularly here in Louisville when you battle Trinity and X year in and year out....for Nichols to have to battle off the field as well...I could only imagine how hard that must have been.

Anyone know what the Manual Schedule looks like next year? Can't imagine it is as challenging as this past season but I know my Cardinals are slated to take their first ever trip to Louisville in week 3 to take on Manual.

 

Hope the new coach, whoever he is, doesn't get cold feet and try to pull out of the contract. :eek::scared:

They are referring to the Colerain (OH) Cardinals that played Manual this year.

Any word on possible replacement?

 

Not 100% sure, I like to hear what anyone may know about Coach Lucas at Bryan Station resigning though. This was reported back in early December, about 2-3 days after Joe was informed he was not the coach.

Dr. Oliver Lucas is an excellent coach. He was a head high school coach in California prior to taking an assistant position at the University of Colorado under Bill McCartney. Eventually returned to the high schools ranks in Denver. He came to Lexington in 2006 as his wife is a Kentucky native. Did an outstanding job of turning around a down Bryan Station program. Whoever retains his services will be fortunate to get him.
