The Boyle/Lone Oak game was terrible both ways. I can understand a few missed calls but that crew missed lots of them. Both teams held on numerous plays. Lone Oak is a very good football team. But you will never convince me that they could hold out the Boyle defense like they did without holding. Hint to officals if the defense whomever it may be, is trying to put their jersey back on at the end of a play , they were probably held.

 

Pulling outward at the back (neck hole) of the shoulder pads is a horse collar penalty. Right or wrong?

 

Pulling downward from the same location is not a penalty. Right or Wrong?

 

I'm well aware thet officiating is a very hard job and ALL calls will not be made.

However you took the job.

 

Surely no one would purposely make a call because a kid is wearing the wrong color jersey.

 

Maybe the problem lies in training. How much professional training do officials have to have? Are they required to have additional training yearly?

 

Can they be or are they nationally certified?

Flashdaddy-It should have never come down to what you call questionable calls. Nevermind that we had a touchdown called back on a legal block, or that we had two kids hit late 3 yards out of bounds and another late in the game that took #2 out of the game for several plays, a penalty on the sideline, several (3-4) holds, a very very bad roughing the passer call that allowed you to continue a drive, etc., etc., etc. Accept the fact that it should have never come down to this, and our boys played their hearts out and wouldn't accept defeat. (This group of officials was not very good). Congrats on a great season and you all have a great team. When Boyle decided to play in the 2nd half, the better team won. We'll look forward to hopefully seeing you again in the future! Kids and Coaches seemed like a class act!

The worst called game I saw was the 3A Championship. The missed call that sticks in my mind is the play, in the 2nd quarter I believe, where the officials called pass interference on Somerset; the player for PT clearly stepped out of bounds on his way to the endzone; the official clearly marked the spot where the kid was out of bounds; the referee signals the penalty on Somerset and the touchdown good.

 

The call probably could have gone either way, but the player was obviously out of bounds. Don't understand why the official that marked the spot didn't step up and say the player was out of bounds. Somerset played terrible but the game was still undecided at this point.

As "Pullin4BC" retorted, there are enough calls on both sides to realize that both teams were hurt and also benefited from the calls discussed. In the end, everyone has their perspective of who was most "wounded" by the bad calls he/she saw. :thumb:

1. I looked through the pictures. #869 doesn't show a lateral and i can't find one in any of the other pictures??

 

2. I am not going to beat the horse dead any longer...the play clock is kept by the Back Judge and it has also been state numerous times on BGP that the clock was hitting 0 when the snap went off.

 

3. The picture of the winning TD is taken on the opposite side of the official that punched it up. He obviously saw the ball break the plane to call it that way. How do you know what he saw by this picture?:idunno:

 

4. Holding....simply getting beat is not being held. Holding is probably the most subjective call in football. It has got a be a big and obvious hold and HAS to be at the point of attack or have a direct effect on the play. Are there holds that aren't called? Yes, and they aren't called for a reason.

 

I think Boyle earned their rings. I don't see anything that makes me believe that they were given to them.

In the 2A game, I thought the officiating was pretty good. A couple of missed calls on both sides, but not enough tomake a difference in the game IMO.

I was thinking the very same thing. I thought that the game was pretty evenly called and no BIG mistakes were called.

The fact is it would not have gotten this close had we run the ball with 5 min. left.But then again Boyle would not have a TO. If The right call would have been made when #2 was hurt under 2 min. Boyle should have been charged a T.O. and they would not have had time to get the kick off. We had a shank punt that was not like our punter to do. We also missed 2 xtra points, which he hasn't missed all season,Yada yada yada..............

From what I saw on the video, if the right call had been made on that play it would have been a personal foul, late hit as the LO lineman hit Rees after he was down on the ground and the play was dead for a while. Check the video and see. :thumb:

ART. 3 . . . No player or nonplayer shall:

k. Grab the inside back or side collar of the shoulder pads or jersey of the runner

and subsequently pull the runner to the ground (Horse-collar tackle).

 

Most associations start their weekly meeting in mid July. With that being said, The Northern Kentucky Officials Association also does offseason rules studies to stay sharp and to work at being the best officials we can be.
