JR Doss from Boone is now at SK. I saw the 2nd half of the JV game and I don't think he missed a shot inside and had some good blocks and several boards. He is still learning their system, but will be very good for them this year.

Sorrell had 20, Basham 18, Gray 14 and Chambers 8.

 

Stat of the game for me; 13 SK players saw the floor in a fairly close game and 8 scored.

Nice win for the Neers. Dixie looked pretty good against Conner the other night, so I'd consider this a mild upset.

 

I expect big things out of Sorrell this year.

Basham made four threes and pretty much made the biggest that put SK up by 8 midway through the 4th quarter. I know Shelby is the favorite along with North Oldham and Anderson for the 8th region but SK has a very good team. If they can get solid games from their post players they will be in the hunt. The future is bright, Sampson is a very good frosh and Swanson also will receive some major minutes, like I said before, I'm very excited about this season.

Swanson and Sampson are going to be a nice 1-2 punch over the next 4 years. I spoke with Jared's mother recently and she said that he was recovering from a hurt shoulder. Any word on how that's coming along?

If I'm not mistaken, he is a sophomore, but only has one more year of eligibility after this year.

Does anyone have shooting percentages from this game? I understand SK shot the ball extremely well from the field and the FT line. It doesn't look like the Enquirer is making much effort to cover NKY boys basketball this year. All I'm seeing are box scores.

Who are the top players from Simon Kenton going to be this year?

SK's top scorer is Sorrell, he average 15/game in '08 and is averaging 25/game so far after two games. I'd say he'll be in the 16 to 17 point range once it's all said and done. Chambers is a solid sophomore PG. Bishop is a thick/strong guard, Gray is a 6'3ish wing with some athleticism. Basham is a nice threat from long range, Sampson is a frosh, lefty and is going to be a good one. Swanson is a frosh PG, very gritty and will also be a player to watch. Inside they don't have a true scoring threat, Mulberry is their starter and Rabe is coming off the bench. Coach Steiner used almost everyone on the bench against Dixie. Bottom line is they are much better than they were in '08 and that team was a few Fts away from defeating Shelby in the 8th semis.

He misses the cut-off by a couple of days, because where he came from they started school at age 6. Pretty sad that because his birthday is a couple days early he has to sit out. I know SK is willing to work with him, which is great!

I heard Basham played great in this game. I would like to see him step up and continue this throughout the season

Word is former SK star, Mike Brock is working closely with him and the other post guys. This team is going to go as far as their perimeter players can take them but they will have to get some production in the paint from their bigs to reach their potential.

Was at both JV & Varsity games. The Refs were not good at all. In the JV game the Pioneer boys could not look at a Dixie player without getting called for a foul. They missed tons of walks, so forth. Even though they had different refs for the Varsity game it was definitely not a well called game. JV was down at half time and came out fired up second half and took over the game. Way to go Pioneers.

 

Same things I noticed at the Dixie/Conner game. Watched a kid get elbowed in the face 3 straight times, no foul. Conner kid accidentally kicks a ball on a scrum and gets called for a tech. Wasnt good.
