Best team put together in the state on paper but starting the season off on the wrong foot if you ask me. How many kids that hit the scorebook last night are TRUE Scott Countians? Just curious.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Ballard's so called best player is going to Bellarmine on scholarship. Scott County is supposed to have three sure fire DI players but can't beat a team whose best player is going to Bellarmine? Coach Hicks better tighten the screws or they will be left shaking their head again come regional tournament time. Looked to me like there weren't enough basketballs to go around and not enough guys to do the dirty work.

Sometimes the numbers dont really tell the whole story. Ballard didnt play as well offensively in the second half due in large part to their own style of play. The Bruins, much like SC, run a wide-open offense and they in particular rely heavily on the three, leaving them susceptible to cold streaks. They were still getting the same looks in the second half that they got in the first, the difference was they just weren't falling and they weren't taking as good care of the ball. The only thing I saw SC key on successfully in the second half was Devante Parker who they did a good job on, but Chiles, Jones, etc. were still getting lots of open looks.

 

And I said that SC underachieved last year because they didnt make it to the Sweet 16 after being ranked nationally in some preseason polls. They should go undefeated in state for 2 1/2 months. They have the talent to go undefeated all season.

 

I am not trying to bash SC by the way. I was rooting for them last night. I think they are a lot of fun to watch (at times). I am just frustrated that they havent come close to meeting their potential yet.

 

 

So Ballard turning the ball over had nothing to do with Scott Co. I guess Scott was just lucky to get back in the game, or maybe Renner had mercy on his old pal Hicks.

 

You also criticsize Scott Co. for the offense they run, but one post later you say Ballard runs the same type offense. Which you seem to have no problem with.

I find it funny that people to seem to forget that they lost their best player the day before the regional final. Or a very contreversial call that happened at the end of that game. Even so Scott Co. had a very good year they were 28-4 and at the end of the season had won 24 in a row playing the states toughest schedule.I would think that would be looked at as a very good year, by any program in the state.Three years ago Scott County had the best team in the last 50 years of Kentucky high school basketball, they didnt even go undefeated.

 

And as for underachieving, I dont think so. Remember its only December.:sssh:

They dress 45 I believe and I would say probably 95% of them grew up in Ft. Thomas. A little different in basketball when your starting 5 are all transplants. In football you put 11 on each side of the ball and out of those 5% that may not have grown up in Ft. Thomas it might be 2 or 3 on each side of the ball. Any other questions?

Agree as well BHR. Guyn might have had a great summer on the AAU circuit but he does not look like a team player. The Cards defensive effort was poor and Ballard got almost every loose ball and rebound. Hicks should lay into them and demand team play. They have awesome talent and they are fun to watch but Lex Cath will beat them again in the Region if they keep this up.

I don't think Scott Co. is better than they were last year. How will they replace Phares?

 

I think part of the problem with them not running much offense is not having a true point guard. No offense to Mr. Jackson I think he's a fantastic ball player. But he's not a floor general.

When I saw them play Lou. Trinity Manning was attempting to run the point.

 

I think their bench is thin don't see how they would survive playing in the State Tournamnet format if they even make it especially if one of the big three gets in foul trouble or injuried.

 

If there the second best team in the state it looks like its pretty wide open :banana:
