Ballard has some studs but at times looked sloppy with the ball out front. SC has some stars but the team chemistry just isn't there. They realy miss Phares down low for boards. I would move Ballard to #4 behind Holmes,GRC,Eastern.

Scott County played dirt bowl basketball last night. They ran no offense, set no screens, and everything was me against the world. Until they get that straightened out and until they play defense with any effort they will continue losing to good teams. Very disappointed in what I saw from them last night.

Yep, they have no team chemistry. But I don't think that they're all just about themselves - Euton is a team player and a leader, he just doesnt get the ball enough so when he does he feels like he has to shoot. I think Jackson really wants to win. But Guyn is the one who looked like the troublemaker on the team. I saw him blow off his teammates twice during free-throw situations, once shunning a team huddle even after Euton tried to tell him to join in, then another time neglecting to give Jackson a high-five, just left him hanging.

 

Coach Hicks needs to learn how to run an offense and teach defensive fundamentals and effort. The only reason why I would keep them in my top-10 is because of the sheer amount of talent they posses. A team that loaded should be going undefeated in Kentucky.

Agree as well BHR. Guyn might have had a great summer on the AAU circuit but he does not look like a team player. The Cards defensive effort was poor and Ballard got almost every loose ball and rebound. Hicks should lay into them and demand team play. They have awesome talent and they are fun to watch but Lex Cath will beat them again in the Region if they keep this up.

I should re-phrase. Coach Hicks is obviously a great coach. I have just watched this talented group of guys underachieve since the beginning of last season and I don't think they run any real offense and their defensive effort has been very lackluster. It's just frustrating. Obviously Coach Hicks has a proven track record though, and hopefully he can pull everything together.

Scott County year in and year out are in the top five in the state in scoring. Scott Co. came out very flat to start the game, in a place that had a regional tournament type atmosphere. Scott Co. played decent defense in the second half, however the rebounding was bad in the fourth quarter. Here are a few defensive comparisons.

Scott County will be fine, every body said the samething last year when they lost to Holmes. All they did after that was not lose to an instate team for another 2 1/2 months.

I know i am probably stating the obvious but it seems like to me SC just tries to outscore everyone they play. Defense comes second in everything they do.

Scott County is supposed to have three sure fire DI players but can't beat a team whose best player is going to Bellarmine? Everyone it's the first game of the season for Scott Co., I would be worrying if this was happening late in the year. Ballard did they wanted force tempo and get the play to be up n down. Scott Co. fell right into that plan and that's why you see everyone playing 1 on 1 on offense. You play the tough games at the beginning of the season to see what your team needs to work on and now the Cards should have an understanding what needs to be done to win. Your right there was no chemistry between Euton, Jackson or Guyn but that takes time, both teams are top 5 and this game was as expected high scoring and down to the wire. It's still to early to make judgements on how the season will pan out after one loss.

The Bruins, much like SC, run a wide-open offense and they in particular rely heavily on the three, leaving them susceptible to cold streaks. They were still getting the same looks in the second half that they got in the first, the difference was they just weren't falling and they weren't taking as good care of the ball. The only thing I saw SC key on successfully in the second half was Devante Parker who they did a good job on, but Chiles, Jones, etc. were still getting lots of open looks.

That's true and you do have to be frustrated by that, I thought they were the most talented team last year but when you don't play team basketball you get hurt. Take a look at Central last year no superstars on that team and made it to the championship game. Will it be the same this year with Scott Co. I'm not sure I won't get to watch many more of their games unless they are in Louisville but if you look at just the first game doesn't seem like they fixed anything yet. Hicks has been in business long enough he'll figure something out.
